I don't know much about wifi, but if the signal is stronger coming from my neighbour in the bedroom (i think their router is right behind our bedroom wall), would that interfere with my signal?

I have switched wireless channels so that we aren't on the same channel as everyone else but it hasn't had any effect.

After hearing this, do you think getting a dual band router and using 5GHz channel would help in my situation, or should I get an extender, or AP?

AP wins hands down in your context.

Decent AP will do dual band (2.4 and 5) and is designed to carry the load of many wireless devices. Also has the added benefit of being easily extensible as a mesh (you only see 1 WiFi network and devices are handed off seamlessly between APS)

PS - when using an AP you disable WiFi on your router completely and let the AP carry all the WiFi load.
 
@PBCool another day another weak internet experience

metro fibre apparently came back to support yesterday to say they fixed my issue only to test and see nothing was fixed. Calling cisps non toll free call centre is proving expensive

and I should not be calling in everyday to follow up as clearly no one follows up on queries made.

also was told there was an MF upgrade which I'm not sure happened or not cause I'm still experiencing weak international . One last try before I throw in the towel with cool ideas requesting a full refund ...

edit: sign up on end of 31 Jan 2019 and this is technically day 6 trying to sort this out :(

people say dont use speed test and rather google fiber test ... so here it is. I love that upload ... wish the download was similar

(I use a Mikrotik RB2011 as my router with unifi APs for WiFi)

Well both. Local network streaming and also want to maximize my 1Gbps fibre. My abode is modest in size. All 3 bedrooms, lounge and outside patio area are amply covered by the AC5400. File transfer on the local network from server to HTPC (line of site to router) runs at 60MB/s-65MB/s. Very happy with that...

Thanks to PBCool and team for helping me get setup! but seems i also have an issue on MetroFibre in Centurion with almost non existent international traffic. Local/Youtube flys @ 200MBps but Twitch and such does not really load and buffers to hell.

Both are multi-threaded as do not even want to see single thread performance.
 
Weird.. 1st time ever for me (on different ISP) seeing my upload speed also outpacing my dload speed with coreix server like you guys.

That’s very good for a built in WiFi router, my Ubiquiti AP also hits 65MB/sec max with line of site, but that’s a client side limitation (887Mbps), which is what most AC clients will connect at within close range. With an AC1300 or higher client device it would be faster, but also happy with anything above 50MB/sec.
 
I've had the same issue every night this week and a few random days over the last month where my connection totally dies for two hours between 20h00 and 22h00. Reported to Cool Ideas and still waiting for feedback. Router is showing an IP and WAN connection, but no up or down traffic seems to be going through. Using an OpenServe fibre line in Killarney.

Anyone else experienced this?

Isn’t it 867Mbps, the limit? I have the same on my htpc. Wireless Network adapter limit?

I may as well downgrade. 100Mbps is useless if international throughput is sitting at just about 0 in the evenings (Octotel Cape Town).
 
21:40 and here we go again. For the second night in a row DL is at 1.3mbps....My Telkom line was better! Blouberg, Cape Town, Octotel. Wth is going on??
