I'll be on CISP from next month. This makes me less concerned about what awaits.

The problem with multiple AP's is that I don't want to much cabling running around the house. I can make it work, but I was hoping they could do it neater. I'm on trenched. Also, with multiple AP's, can they all have the same ssid? I would ideally like to not drop signal when moving from one point of the house to the other. I also would really love to stream from my htpc to my bedroom, and they'll definitely have to be on different AP's.

Have you tried PLC? I use Ethernet over power from one room to the next, and I get a solid 100Mbps. It adds around 1-2ms latency, depending on what other appliances you use (mine survives the dishwasher/washing machine fine), it might be acceptable for you.

It will depend on the quality of your electrical wiring though. Also they have yet to survive a lightning season, so we shall see...

Thanks, I've tried ethernet over power. It's an old house, and I assume the electricity is poor, because my speed dropped from 100Mbps to under 10 with the EOP.

I've bought a mesh solution, which I'll setup and see how it goes. If it doesn't work as well as I'd like, I'll get someone to do the cabling properly. Anybody have any recommendations?

BTW - Congrats CoolIdeas on being #1! I look forward to joining you guys in November.

Vumatel is rolling out Fibre in my area, with expected completion mid next month. So now I'm hunting for ISP. With the cost of switching fibre ISPs not free like our ADSL days, it looks like you need to think a bit harder about the decision.
I've always used capped products, because I've been burnt by uncapped promising the world, but only to experience crap service down the line.

I've been keeping my eye on Cool Ideas and with the MyBroadband results it seems they are tops. I'm just concerned about the promise of uncapped, unshaped, un-everything. Is there a word in the vocab missing, like prioritizing? Can I use up to a ridiculous 5TB a month without retribution?

I could recommend maybe going with Ubiquiti AP's with Zero-Handoff Roaming. So that every AP seen as one and they are not going to give you problem's when you walk around the house. They are not cheap . Something like this https://www.takealot.com/ubiquiti-u...z2cOrdL6SmVvM2YzhRkIGq5IeBmY_s7gaAifaEALw_wcB

You might only need one :p

Would rather go with the newer AC LR's abit more pricey but much better coverage and speedwise:
https://www.geewiz.co.za/unifi/1968...ge-ap.html?search_query=Unifi+AC+LR&results=5

Had to replace my AC Pro that fell from the roof a few weeks ago due to construction on the floor above us...for some reason screws come loose with vibrations might have been mounting error my side but performance seems about better on the LR then Pro

@PBCool Any idea why I'm not getting the full 100? I tested a few times with only my computer connected via cable to the network.

Ping: 3ms
Download: 91.12Mbps
Upload: 93.5Mbps

I'm assuming the lack of responses here means Cool Ideas is not a good option for me?

I don't use a lot of data (~150-200Gb a month)...I can confirm I've not seen any shaping at all in the first month I've been on Cool Ideas' 20/2 package.

So the Octotel installers came in today but couldn't complete because we need access to the next door unit to get into their roof and nobody was home there. Hopefully I can organise a time when somebody arrives so we can give the installers access.

After all of my bitching, I want to say a heartfelt thanks to Cool Ideas.

They came out on friday with Vumatel.

Many changes later and things are not perfect, but certainly much improved.

Not many ISP's would go to that length. Thank you CISP.

Don’t think that is a fair assumption, as the CISP Rep has a day job of running the company and not here on MyBB to answer questions that quick.

We did allot of tests, and with mixed results. I’m personally happy, I get more than what I pay for.

Please give me 5TB worth of data, and I’ll download and upload it for you.

Would take me less than 12 days using FDM in both directions.

I download a Debian Dist DVD in 6 minutes.. work for me.

PBCool will answer when online.

Probably because they've said it many times before no fup, no cap, no shaping/throttling.

It's been glorious coming from ADSL. Just the odd time their network would occasionally die - happened twice this year - but they were up again ASAP.

I would come and bitch about the lack of after hours support but that's mainly because I'd be in the middle of gaming, and hell hath no fury like a gamer with no network :D I can't fault them otherwise...

Sorry for the delay in response, day was a bit chaotic. You can use the line at full speed 24hrs a day if you liked and we wouldn't throttle or limit it.

It would be overhead on the line limit usually, do you have a gigabit network?

Glad to hear it, I know you have been struggling for a while :(
