Hey PBCool

Any chance of near future download speed increases?

I see I'm getting 100/100 down, and I'm extremely happy!

Thank you!

Conman
Only if fibrehoods decide to upgrade their head-end and ONTs. Not anytime soon I think as they need to fund the existing network first which is still very new.

Anyone on cool ideas play PS4 / Xbox One?

How does Seacom compare to cables on the west coast WRT latency (say ping) to the USA? Is there much of a difference?
WACS vs Seacom is about 10ms difference. All of SA connects to the US via the UK.

It is brilliant, you still have about 180ms lag, but the overall experience is a lot better

180ms? That's excellent.

ADSL via Afrihost and you're looking around 230 - 250ms in Rainbow 6 (Azure server in Dublin). 190 in Rocket League (not sure where servers are, but in the EU).

Hi Ghost, it's seems to be MTU relative on the PPPoE networks, but yes it's resolved.

Hi PBcool,

Just need some info, currently subscribed to 20/20.
1) Why is the connection fees are different on different networks, talking specifically for Maboneng compared to Metro fibre? R1000 vs R500?

2) Also, why is there a subscription fees are different amongst different providers, I gather that the infrastructure providers might be charging different fees but i'm sure the ISP's like you guys should request for the Infrastructure providers to have same pricing across the board.

Providers have completely different pricing models based on technologies deployed, business plans, etc.

Thanks Sinbad, so how would one (Consumer) find out on the technology deployed? i.e. AON or GPON?

Give me some clarifications on this, is it safe to say that, GPON is more based like Telkom's ADSL methodology where an exchange has a capacity of 100mbps and we get over subscription of 100 users connecting to the same exchange and everyone will share the line @ 1mbps? = congested exchange = crap user experience?

You'd have to ask the providers for that info.
I know for sure that Vumatel is ActiveEthernet@1gbps, I believe that fibrehoods is PON@100/50 (though I could be wrong).
Yes with PON there's a chance of oversubscription, but I don't think you'll see the same levels of congestion as we've seen in the adsl network.
PON isn't really like ADSL though - it's not an exchange that gets constrained, but the actual branch of the fibre network itself.
