Hi DJ,

Sorry, search is not my friend today. I know you posted 8 Mbps prices in this thread but it seems it's a bit too far back to find in this thread or in your posting history. Could you please remind me of that pricing.

Also, I just looked at your web site and see it's not yet listed. Are the prices stable/confirmed and the product active, i.e. it's simply a matter of you finding time to get the site updated and orders via chat could be placed now (not that I'm quite ready yet) or are you waiting on a few things before making it an orderable product?

I hope you don't mind if I ask a couple of other questions while I have your attention, and apologies for name-checking a competitor in one of them...

1 - If my only really demanding use is going to be live streaming then is premium uncapped necessary to stop me being throttled/shaped or interfered with in some way or is streaming sufficiently prioritised in the basic uncapped service that I am likely to be OK at all times of the day? My planning assumption is traffic of about 300GB a month (that's absolutely crazy worst-case scenario but I prefer to plan for that).

2 - I see a few competitors, e.g. MWeb, offering 6 Mbps packages and MWeb at least had that offering before Telkom launched the 8 Mbps option for line speed. I assume this is done by requiring the user to have the Telkom ADSL line speed just above 6 Mbps (i.e. was a 10 Mbps line but could now be an 8 Mbps line after Telkom introduced the new speeds) and the ISP then throttles the data to 6 Mbps max. Have you ever considered a 6 Mbps product? The full 2/4/6/8/10Mbps speed points would be nice to have.

Hi Julian. You can grab it on live chat at R649 for premium uncapped. And yes, premium uncapped is ideal for your requirements. Website and various checkout code is being rewritten, so the next update will include it.

We have considered the various speed options and we continue to do so, but 6Mbps is not on the cards right now...

Thanks for yet another near-instant reply DJ. That Borg implant still seems to have you permanently connected to these forums :)

Re pricing, could you please also remind me of your price for an 8Mbps line. Telkom web site still only shows 4 & 10 Mbps. I guess that means 8 Mbps is still wholesale only so unless a customer wants to waste money by taking a 10 Mbps line from Telkom and an 8 Mbps package from you the only way to purchase a matched line speed and data package seems to be by taking a bundled offering from an ISP such as yourselves. Not a big deal since I was planning to go bundled ADSL line plus data anyway.

Re premium vs basic uncapped is there anything that describes the difference in shaping/throttling policy between the two? I'm just curious really, I have no problem going for the more expensive service if that's what I need, but I'd be interested in knowing what the extra money is buying.

Another weekend where the Supersport F1 stream is unwatchable on Crystalweb.
Switching over to my Vox account works perfectly. Whats happening Crystalweb?

I'm streaming it from Supersport this very second without a single buffer. There is absolutely nothing up with the network on our side whatsoever...

R365 for the line. Our FAQ on each product page describes each product and how it works. But premium is what you require for that usage on those protocols at those times of day...

I'm glad it's working for you, but it makes no difference to me :) . Running of my Vox account and free FNB is significantly better than the CrystalWeb account. So if it works fine over the Vox account and not so good from the CW account, my limited experience tells me its something on the Crystalweb side, as everything else is the same.

Go look through your support logs and see that I have 'spoken' to Crystalweb over poor streaming performance on a Sunday, a couple of times now. I need my Internet Bliss on a Sunday for F1 and MotoGP. :p

I don't know who you are as mybb is anonymous so I have no idea who I'm looking for, but I won't be able to do that right this second as I'm with family.

Is it all streams, or only the F1? Where are you based? What account do you have? What's your line speed? When you say unwatchable, what exactly does this mean?

Is other streaming not working? What is your line syncing at right now? Have you run any mtr tests to Supersport?

No need to do anything. I decided to play around a little bit, since I could only watch snippets of race (which was boring as heck, even though Ferrari was winning).

I switched back to my CW account, restarted the Supersport stream and then enabled the UK Unotelly VPN. Guess what. The buffering stopped. The quality is still *** though as it was low res.

Mmmmm. Now that's interesting. Streaming to the UK and back is more successful, for me, than local only streaming. So this just tells me that there is a CW/Supersport issue for me.
I started a second stream on the same PC using the Netflix app and it's in high def simultaneously with the SS F1 Stream and no buffering on either stream.

Also experiencing the same with SS streaming but I'm leaning on it being them to blame because they are that durp. YouTube streaming is fine so yeah, SS is just backwards methinks.

This is the clearest it gets lately, can't even maximise it like I was doing a month back

Will also confirm that SS streaming isn't working at all, however I don't have another account to test.

Really looks like their (SS) issue though.

I must applaud Crystalweb. I upgraded from the 4Mb Premium uncapped package to the 8Mb Premium uncapped package and I am impressed. They were more than accommodating when it came to my numerous support queries as to the status of the upgrade and I'm betting they kept a firm thumb on Telkom as my exchange has a reputation for being utterly useless. I used to require weekly port resets on the 4Mb profile, but, knock on wood, have seen nothing indicating anything of the sort on the new profile. Overall it was an effortless and most pleasant experience.

Tried to signup and pay via credit card and it didn't give me an outstanding amount? Just entered R1.00 so they can see the payment. DJ, I'm assuming Ill be contacted soon?

You can pop on live chat during sign up to confirm, and it's one we are working on. For capped there is no pro-rata so we make that clear twice on sign up. For uncapped it's normal pro-rata, so for tomorrow's date of activation is (22/30)*retail cost...

Been testing this constantly and all connections into their DC are perfect, and the bandwidth and classification is correct. Also unable to replicate on my side, so can say with confidence that this isn't related to us at all. I do however know that their servers and bandwidth are being hit VERY hard since RWC started...

Thank you. We hope the positive comments keep flowing. There's been a lot of that going around.

Bodes well for ISP Of The Year voting. Although we're unsure when that is going to start as it's about a month late already and not sure they could possibly get that done in time for the conference...
