I'm trying to think of things to complain about...but I cannot find any. This is perplexing as I'm seeing all the other ISP threads get bumped repeatedly with issues and complaints. I'm feeling left out as a CW customer :D

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. They run a tight ship, they're friendly, helpful, provide a solid service and they don't give out generic responses like a lot of others do. So, all in all, good show.

Yeah, my post count is falling behind. Think it is time to join another ISP and improve it.

Is there a way for me to check the usage on my account?

Aside from the daily emails that I receive?

Hi guys,

Portal beta release set for today. Just ironing out a few niggles at the moment but should be good to deploy the beta later today. Note that we'll be adding new features still to this portal, we're currently going to deploy the basic set of features for now which does include far more than you were able to view and do before...

Yes thanks, even if it's just basic usage information and a referenceless button to press for the sake of being able to press a button, then I'm fine.

UPDATE: we've re-routed traffic over redundant links and our customers should be largely unaffected due to this Telkom fibre break. There may be slightly higher latency and marginally slower speeds over this link but we expect it not to be all that noticeable. So our customers shouldn't be affected to a large degree from this point on...

is this to a specific area or the whole of jhb?

also, recently i seem to have btter quality on my streaming(720p), before it was always 480 or less... i'm just curious to know whether you guys did anything to your network for that. My line speed is 3.6MB 99% of the time, and the quality of netflix and hulu has always been the same up until now, which is for the better, however, its not always on 720p and always fluctuates between 480 and 720...

Whole of Gauteng, and other areas that connect through Gauteng. But we've mitigated this - see the latest update.

And yes, we have a direct path into Netflix on the network now. Streaming will only get better and better...;)

I have noticed this :) 1080 pretty damn often. Even when my line was assia-d :D

thanks for the update... this is the reason i stick with CW... i just worry sometimes that maybe you guys will start shaping :wtf: because with the better quality, i now use about 10gigs a day, and this is only for watching tv in the evening... before it was aroung 5...

We're doing our damndest not to introduce shaping on the uncapped products. Naturally if usage spikes massively we may have to re-evaluate this, but for now we're running the uncapped customers just about entirely unshaped at all times. It's the beauty of operating a true dynamic shaping policy on the network. Even if we did shape on uncapped, remember that premium uncapped will get full throughput on streaming still and we'll only start with p2p downloads, and then if need be http(s) downloads thereafter a bit. We keep the streaming operating at as close to full speed at all times...

im on the 4MB uncapped(R429) - not sure if its premium uncapped? dont really do ptp downloads, maybe like 5 gigs of that for an entire month... only stream so please dont shape us to death when usage starts increasing :D .... remember, you increased the usage by giving us better speeds :p

Haha, no you're fine. You're on premium uncapped.

Premium uncapped should see that just about everything operates at line speed unless the source of the download is pretty far, in which case it has nothing to do with us and everything to do with operating system receive windows and round trip time, as well as receive window buffers. I did post a while back about how this all works - basically international is always a bit slower simply because of the way your operating system handles IP traffic and the way IP traffic throughput is impacted by latencies (i.e. the design of the internet). That's why bringing these links closer (like Netflix) improves quality overall...;)

Update on the Telkom problem : Fibre got burned and the contractor is busy breaking the manhole open (cemented close because of fibre theft). Yes fibre also get stolen to make bulletproof vests
