Point taken ..... So, your migration path was: Afrihost (ADSL) --->CW ADSL ------> CW FTTH ?

Correct.

CW came along at just the right time - as Afrihost was hitting the IPC cost wall and throttling all HTTP downloads to 12.5% of line speed.

Have never looked back. In fact I'm pretty sure that CW's Vuma partnership is because I asked DJ to look into it because I didn't want to leave CW when my fibre lit up...? :D

I saw this on the support desk at the time and am fairly certain you're in good hands with the agents addressing it. 3rd hop not reporting is incredibly odd and if it were on our network we'd see traffic die across the network. We've actually seen traffic spike instead so fairly certain given the limited info here that this is localised and not network related, but I must stress that the guys on support are always best positioned to assist as data posted here is typically insufficient to make any definitive statements about, whereas the guys on support know what they're looking for and escalate things immediately to me where we have on-net issues...

Latency came down a few minutes ago and local sites load fast again.

Yup, we're pretty open about these things. We're busy upgrading 3 components of the network and introducing a brand new element as well, and while we expect minimal impact, some capacity comes on and off stream while doing so. So we'd rather be open and honest upfront about this than in any way pretend that nothing could be an issue on our side and deflect things. In this case however the network notice and Bryn's issue seem unrelated for the time being...

On the subject of the changes to your website .....

I posted a few queries quite a while ago ...

(1) Logo scaling on your home page .... it does not work too well.
(2) Sign up for your newsletter ...... he is still broken ......

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The above network report I presume is available only to CW clients ?

By logo scaling, do you mean scaling down or up and on what devices?

Newsletters we don't really do. We're contemplating it and the website upgrades will include working news alerts.

The network notices is available to anyone...

Doesn't sound like a caching issue necessarily. Sounds more like perhaps a drive or set of drives were replaced and swapped out? Or, or, or. Or a drop in their international connection (they operate their own international connectivity BTW). But on our side YouTube is solid at the moment. Happy to hear back to normal for you...

Thanks. Youtube is definitely blazing again. BBC iPlayer been streaming amazingly the last month on CW. Streams start out in 1080p without a transition period (can't specify quality in the Apple TV app) and buffer for barely a millisecond when skipping. On Afrihost at the end of last month, streams took about to minute to hit HD and skipping around wasn't smooth at all and often also reset the picture quality transition period. Whatever you guys are doing, don't stop.

Did you read my post a page back:

I asked the live chat support if CW could create a 525GB capped account for me but they said that custom accounts are not possible. I'm feeling a little stuck here - I certainly don't want to waste money on a 650GB account. Can't you introduce a 525GB account for R1149pm? That's in line with your per gig pricing, and fills the rather big gap between 425GB and 650GB.

Would you consider adding another capped option to your offerings? I'm expecting another data shortfall this month and I no longer have any Afrihost rollover to fall back on.

Absolutely, and I've taken your suggestion on board. We're looking at ways to offer more choice for customers and this is one of the numerous options. Once these network upgrades are done we'll be able to offer some very cool things including new packages and package types...

Will post a pitcha, Using MS Edge Browser, and a Laptop .....
Then suggest you do not offer the news letter sign up option till it is available ... instead of the error message one gets when trying to sign up ....

Glad to hear it! I assume upgrades are instant, so I can wait a few weeks until that happens and I need it.

Do you mean upgrades to your account? Yes, they are as near to instant as possible. They take a few minutes typically to filter through after initiating them...

I can attest to this :D

I signed up and was provisioned (fully up and running) within a couple of minutes of hitting the "submit" button two nights ago.

Assuming you've had no complaints from the missus so all is finally good on the home front since switching? :D

Hey DJ opened an account for the in laws this morning, is it going to be working today :) ?

If activation was tomorrow it will be live then. If you need it activated immediately just ask the guys on support and they'll manually provision for you...:)

The teenager is very happy - the missus...

Me: So what do you think of the internet now that we've switched to CW?

Missus: Well, it was nice on fast on my desktop but I seem to remember it being faster on my iPad before...It's quicker than the last couple of months though - at least I'm not seeing that stupid spinning circle...

Me: Well, I reckon that if you want it to be even faster, we'll have to upgrade to fibre...It's a fair bit pricier mind you...might have to cancel the DSTV to cover the difference...

Missus: Humph - [glares at me - goes back to browsing Pintrest]

:D

Faster on the iPad? We don't discriminate based on type of handset used...:D

Might be good to check on your wireless signal though...;)

DJ, any reason why there isnt an option say for a 50GB cap? Is this based on feedback you guys have conducted, whereby your smallest capped package is 100GB's?

Thanks

The wireless is fine (Ubiquiti Unifi running directly into Mikrotik Router) - she's just being picky

Speedtest and other network speed monitoring tools that I run on her iPad shows that there's no problem.

Hence my comment to her about fibre (it is after all only an 8 meg ADSL line)
