Prophet and killa - what great offence has this thread caused you?

Nothing this thread is great, if mweb give me trouble i know exactly what package to move to. It is the constant mweb bitching by certain people that gets me.

Dude you need to look at yourself, from the 2nd page this has been carrying on. Really rather disgusting in my opinion.

Some good info here if the mods could delete your posts along with the so called mweb trolls( this includes my posts). So could we get back on topic which is an alternative to mweb and not bitching, moaning and fighting.

Fortunately - your opinion doesn't really mean much - what exactly have you posted of relevance to this thread, oh, and your bitching about me isn't relevant, its hypocritical? I've constantly been posting my Openweb feedback.

Bibi Mweb

Ok so here are my honest experience with MWeb... Before October 2010 I would actually only have a few things to complain about, mainly the week long Seacom/Whoever issue that caused most of the country to go *poof* and secoundly the continual shaping issues which occured almost every Friday, making for a VERY rocky start to most weekends... Other than that I was quite happy, up until the date in question ofc...

Gaming has taken a TOTAL nosedive since the peering started, and from what I can tell this is mainly due to Telkom not joining in on the "fun". WoW gets around 600-13000 ping, and usually dcs when you reach the front of a 20min queue... Steam games jump around the 30-150ms mark (I have a 4MB line btw) on all games... All PS3/Xbox traffic is shaped to around 75K ALL THE TIME!

Not to mention all streaming sites getting totally downsized on their shaping policies... I get 150K MAX on YouTube now and around 50K on Gametrailers... Browsing is ok, so no complaints there but the rest is just SHOCKING! the thing that piss3s me off the most tho is that Cape Town now has a Sat-3 connection which is supposed to resolve this issue but what about the rest of us? One of the representees on this forum said:

"Decisions in terms of network structure unfortunately can't be taken in terms of making sure that everyone around the country gets the same gaming latency - it simply isn't practical"

i.e. MWeb doesnt care about a small towner like me, h3ll not even Jhb get to experience this Sat-3 nor do they seem to have any plans for them either:

"Anyone in the Western Cape should be getting routed through SAT-3. For the JHB peeps i unfortunately don't know whats in the pipeline to get the problems sorted. Maybe getting a lowcap account with a SAT3 provider for the time being might be a option."

So what is a consumer like me to do BUT cancel? H3ll they are even TELLING me to do so! Just to let all you small towners/gamers/Youtubers know, it will be a long time before MWebs network can "give everyone the same gaming latency", h3ll even getting acceptable latency is going to be a fight it seems! For the time being Im happy to change over to OpenWeb where my latency is in fact PERFECT!

Thanks for the feedback.Did you always have full line speed or thereabouts?

Yes. Priority protocols like web and emails seems fast all day. Usenet was 50 KBps during the day and 300 KBps after hours (my line syncs at 3 Mbps). Holidays, weekends and quiet business days was fast all day.

This account is a bloody bargain!

Was reading some of the earlier posts....

Funny why are you turkey's moaning about people slating Mweb after reading the title, just put your experience down & shut up, go outside a sniff the fresh air ;)

Personally I was happy with Mweb for a time & now I have grown distaste for many reasons & now I have cancelled for the end of Jan...

 I need advice ...

Please allow me to give you my history as background ... don't flame me for that ...

I was a loooong time Cybersmart user, and was very happy with them. Then the Uncapped Wars started ... way back when . So I wanted to cancel my Cybersmart account and go to Screamer. Thankfully they stopped me from that mistake. They were unofficially running an uncapped pilot, so I signed up. After 6 months, they concluded it was not viable to them for my type of usage. I was sometimes pulling 90 GB a month on my 384k line. I download torrents, primarily. The nice thing about Cybersmart is that ALL their accounts are unshaped. They believe in giving a good service. So I very reluctantly went over to Mweb uncapped, shaped 384k.

I couldn't last long on the shaped account, as my throughputs were pitiful! So I forked out the extra bucks and have been using uncapped unshaped on 384k for the last few months.

Most of the time I get around 30 kB/s download speed, which is acceptable for torrents on 384k. Every now an then though, it get really really bad. Also, when a couple of new shows are out, it takes too long to download, so I want to up my speed.

So now I have to decide on a lot of possible options, and why I seek advice from the "Ex-MWEB" clan. I have generally heard horror stories about MWeb's 4 meg uncapped shaped service.

- So there is the option of Cybersmart's up-to-10meg line for R799 including the line rental (same price for 4 or 10 meg). This give a 15 GB cap, and free downloading from 2am to 5am. Those 3 hours a night can pull an immense amount of data at 10 megs. And they are unshaped.
- Then you tested the Axxess 4 meg uncapped. I don't understand the 2x2mbps connections. Do you set up two VCI's on your router? Or must it be on 2 different routers? Then is your connection on 2 mbps?
- I saw mention of Openweb Gold.
- Anything else?

Basically, I want to download from torrents. I dearly WANT to seed back, at least to a 1:1 ratio. I have recently added a new seed on BitFarm, and the guys cannot successfully download from me - they get speeds like 1kBbs or less. And I eventually had my side limited to one download, and one upload. I don't want to just leech. Where I can I want to seed back. It's only fair!

So: what advice can you give me?

If you have someone to share the costs with then the Axxess Just Uncapped 4096 deal is by far the cheapest. Allows for two concurrent connections from two locations, so works out to R248 for 4 Mbps. The 2x2 story is BS, it runs full speed.

We did 220 GB last month.

waiting for the x-openweb subscriber thread since i can see even xrapidx is not getting his money's worth over at the greener grass.

My bad speeds (below 100KB/s) are back again - I think its time I move back to capped - I can't spend R738 on an account like this.

EDIT 20:15 - I'm using an IS based Openweb account which runs at around or below 100KB/s - then I switched to the Afrihost free 1GB account, and its currently sitting at 320KB/s for the last five minutes... isn't Afrihost also IS?

EDIT 20:30 - Afrihost has been running at a constant 380KB/s for the last 15min, I've just switched back to Openweb Gold... will report in another 15min.

EDIT 20:45 - Openweb also running fine again.... occasional speed dips, but nothing below 200KB/s.

EDIT 21:45 - Currently fluctuating between 150KB/s and 250KB/s

I don't know anymore. I'll report back nearer bed time.

...seems that more isn't worth it always, right ?
