Uncapped price war — Fibre versus 5G

5G broadband is often promoted as an alternative to fibre. However, a MyBroadband analysis shows that it is still on the high end of the pricing spectrum.

The wireless technology can achieve download speeds of over 100Mbps in South Africa.

I dont have 5G coverage at home, so my 200meg fibre service is much better, also 4G disappears within 30 min with load shedding so why would 5G be any differant, while my fibre just works.

Fully agreed.

And in my use case the throughput isnt the only thing that matters, lots of my recreational time depends on having lower ping.

Been on 5g for about 7 months now runny at around 240meg. Goes off for like a minute during loadshedding and comes back on again. So not much of an issue

I have 100/100 line that is uncapped, unshaped, unthrottled No FUP and Vuma has doubled speed until end January 2023 for free. Nothing beats the 200/200 Fiber that I have now and speeds are amazingly fast. Topping 10TB per month streaming, downloading etc. 4G in my area goes down as soon as loadshedding hits, no sign of 5G anytime soon. I will stick with fiber that just works even in loadshedding times.
