Home-Connect ISP Feedback

Yeah, like over R10k?!

They putting in some serious yards! Really hope they get to the bottom of this cause I'm enjoying them so far (for the most part).

I can't fault their service! They've consistently phoned or emailed or arrived when they've said they would. Should be the norm but that's actually a rarity when it comes to SA companies.

You right about their OS pricing! Such a pity! I was also considering maybe dumping Vumatel and getting OS but just not worth it...

Yeah Openserve network is good but IPC makes it an expensive option and IPC congestion is a real pain. :(

Just received this.

I see some of your single threaded speedtests showing increased speeds. Your issues sorted yet?
I been running TCPoptimizer (thanks @wingnut771 ). I was skeptical but I suspect that may have made a difference!

Home-connect still monitoring the line. They trying to establish if the issue resides on their end or Vumatel's.

So I've come to a rather cynical conclusion and that is the following. Home-connect are masters of deceit and that deceit is creating the impression that they trouble shooting my line... In 6 weeks they've offered absolutely 0 feedback!

They've had me jumping through hoops doing test after test. They've hooked up a fancy Mikrotik CCR. Oh and it's sat here for over a week now. "Can I unplug it now, it's very noisy"?, I asked. "Oh no sir, they still conducting tests", they replied.

I've sent them iperf test result after iperf test result. "Any feedback from core regarding the poor test results"?, I ask. "Which tests are you inquiring about"?, they ask.

Guess it's time to jump ship and land on Websquad 1Gbps lite?

Maybe... Need to wait for @Waylander test results! Looks promising so far.

But I shouldn't be mean. Everyone I've dealt with at Home-connect has been extremely friendly and accommodating. Sign up was super efficient, billing has been 100%, support channels are there and making what seems a like a decent effort but just no results to show for it...

@Waylander and @websquadza did more in an hour to explain the iperf anomaly, than Vumatel, Cool Ideas, Home-connect have managed in 4 months.

Man, it's such a grind getting 1st world service these days!! Why? I guess SA is essentially a 3rd world country with 1st world elements...

I think best option would be to move to WebSquad and have their support techs use the diagnostics we've done to push Vuma to swap out your ONT. I write my final for series 1 on Friday, so I'm hoping to get my review out soon.

You reckon it's faulty or just needs a change of MTU pppoe values?

Vumatel (I'm assuming you're on Vuma) doesn't do configuration changes on their ONTs due to their scale, they just swap them out should there be a problem.

Mmmmmm, yeah, Vumatel. This is a new ont. Got it on the 23rd of November 2018. Gees, don’t think they going to be in a rush to swap it out again.

Will this Mtu issue effect performance though? Other than the wonky iperf results?

It really won't affect general performance, it'll just affect applications that use large packet sizes like synthetic benchmarks (iperf) - packet volume will be unaffected so you can still do heavily threaded transfers like torrents.

Maybe by setting your router's MTU to the same as your ONT (1452) you'll remove the need to set lower packet sizes on iperf... lots of experimentation needed :p

Right, so I'm back on the TPlink. Changing MTU to 1452 causes packet loss at lower values, so at around 1430. Left it on 1480 (default) for now.
