Home-Connect ISP Feedback

Whoever warned me about Afrihost.

You were right.

My Youtube is buffering constantly.

Sometimes I can only stream on 320p.

If I switch my VPN on it works flawlessly.

Afrihost is shaping their network.

Who applies restrictions on an uncapped fibre connection. Wtf.

Home Connect get your **** together & accept recurring card payments. I will actually move if you do that.

Anybody on Home Connect had a flapping connection yesterday?

Was up and down a few times for me

My download was horrible yesterday morning. Getting 5mbps on 50. Upload was line speed.
Sorted itself out about an hour later.

No problems the rest of the day.

Was browsing through fibre providers as I do every 2 months to see if anything has changed for my area.
All other ISPs have no coverage for me, however Home-Connect says there is coverage available via : Fibre - Link Africa - Live Connection. It then offers numerous packages from 10/10 up to 100/100 with decent pricing similar to other ISP home uncapped packages.
The rest of the details in each offering is :
  • Uncapped
  • Unshaped
  • Symmetrical
  • Free-to-use Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi router
  • Month-to-Month Contract
  • Free Fibre Activation
  • Link Africa ONT required on site
  • Link Africa Fibre Line must be installed already at your home
  • No Fibre installed a once-off fee of R848.00 is applicable to the Activate Package
When checking through Link Africa it shows a possible business fibre available at my location, and all available business lines and ISPs were quite expensive on their website.

So would there be any hidden costs or things I need to keep in mind? I know the Fibre installation would be needed which is the once off R848. Is Home-Connect then the ISP and Fibre line cost holder? I am worried about the 2 lines of Link Africa ONT and Fibre Line must be installed already.

Any updates on the performance of Home-Connect, was thinking of switching over to them...currently on CISP. Only looking at the 20mb line on Octotel.

Edit: Anyone?

My parents have been on them (via Frogfoot - only 10/10) for about 3 weeks now, mainly streaming (dstv+netflix) and day to day admin / banking etc. so not exactly power users. From logging into the pi I have at the house I can see the pings are always very good, speedtests always the full 10/10 and no issues with streaming.

I'd swap over to them if my CISP experience went south but my CISP experience has always been great (excluding interactions with the support staff - that's always hopeless, but i basically never have issues). I don't use twitch / game and MTN is my fibre provider which is pretty rock solid

Been with Home Connect for just over 2 weeks, 100/100 on Frogfoot. Very happy so far, low and stable pings for gaming and pretty much full speed local and international.

Will have to see what the future holds but so far so good .

Must add that dealing with HC's support department was good while I was getting everything set up. Responses within an hour via email and the staff were quite knowledgeable.

Quite impressed with home connect, quick to respond to emails and calls makes a huge difference.

Think i know who i'm signing up with , thanks for running the tests, numbers look good . will be a shame to cancel my R529 p/m LTE uncapped seeking the lower latency for gaming. but just can't play Ranked with a 220ms+ ping
