How much does DSTV's Explora download?

I have an uncapped 4mb account with Telkom. I got capped due to my torrent downloads at 200GB

But this had me look at my usage in more detail. I noticed I download just under 1GB per day. My pc doing the downloads were switched off during this time....

Have any one else noticed or know what the Explora's daily downloads sizes are? Perhaps monitored it?

Nowadays all connected devices download, phones, tablets, TVs, fridges, etc... :-(

Noticed it when I first connected the explorer to the Internet.

DSTV will rather use your line over their satellite to push content, for example:

1) Box Office titles

2) Catch up which includes extended library

3) Software Updates

And then on top of all that, DSTV collects all your viewing habits, button pushing, viewing time, etc and uploads this for their market research.

I'm surprised people still even USE DSTV in 2016. Guess it just doesn't want to die yet.

I'm sure there is a way to block that though.

Yeah my explora is connected and it only seems to download if I tell it. I only have ~10GB per month so I would've noticed.

Do you have a chromecast by any chance? That gobbles gigabytes like no tomorrow, even (or especially) when you are not using it.

Not as far as I know. A user has no control over downloads via the Internet -- if you connect it will do what ever it wants to do.

What is probably happening is the initial period while the decoder is updating is very hectic with lots of downloads. Once the decoder's catalogue for BO and CU+ is up to date, the daily changes are minimal.

Don't confuse specific requests for streaming from DSTV Now and Showmax with the normal activity that takes place in the background. DSTV Now and Showmax is under your control.

The "exploda" only downloads "smallish" stuff in the background, no updates etc. It only loads the repositories for Catchup and icons/images of movie/series titles from internet.
The big downloads will only be the videos itself that you select to download from the Catchup menu.

Yeah this is my experience as well. The big stuff is never downloaded/cached unless you specifically tell it to. The title art may or may not be pulled from the net when you browse the catalogues. But that's no more data than browsing a website.
