iPhone 14 discussions

Need to pick a work phone and had I known I would have just gotten the 14 from the office. Now I kinda need to pick an android as two iOS devices doesn’t really make sense
Two iPhones work well together though, with handoff, icloud, etc... but I suppose if you don't need to share or sync data between devices then android it is...

So I've got a practical tip: if you need to insure your iPhone 14 Pro Max, get a quote from Naked.

This is not an advert lol. I requested a quote first from Auto & General (my car insurer), who offered R480/month. I almost choked.

Then I downloaded the Pineapple app ... all those billboards must have forced them to raise their prices, because they offered me like R850/month.

I then turned to my former insurer, Discovery Insure, and they wanted R680/month.

Tried Naked ... got R232/month offer (excess of R3000/month and replacement value of R31000)... for now I've purchased that. I can always move, but for now I don't think I'll beat that.

What's your experience/premium?

I’m on Naked as well. R216 for R28k cover/R3k excess

I’m paying R238 at Discovery for my 14 PM 256GB. Buuut I do have a ton of other stuff with them so it might be why.

Yeah I also had that when I was with them. Then they tried a big premium hike this year and I left them. Now it seems I don't get any benefit ... oh well, their loss if they don't wanna take my money for nothing.

I put my 13 PM covered under the same brokered insurance that cover my car and home, insured for R29000 at R288pm with a R500 excess, same insurance that covered my 11 Pro Max.

I almost fell out my chair when I heard that these insurers are now asking for excess of R3000-5000 for phones, the risk of losing a phone in SA has gone up considerably I guess.

Share your broker details. Thats a good price

So a quick update, I went to the iStore today, to trade in my 13PM. Online evaluation was 20k. Was 100% expecting them to find and penalize me for any small infraction. Surprised to say, they paid me the full R20k for the trade in \ cashback.

Where on gumtree, people were offering between 13k-15k for it.

So much for the R8k that was initially offered to me.
Does the phone have to be purchased from the iStore to be legible for a Trade in?
What if the phone was on contract? Does it still work?

It doesnt have to be bought through them, but based on what they told me, if it wasnt bought /. upgraded through them, then they give you a gift card to the value of the evaluation. Because I did my upgrade instore, they are able to do a deposit into my account

When doing the assessment do they remove your screen protector etc?

Any tips to get the rate offered on the site in store?

Would it matter if the phone is on contract?

@Bryn / @phlux

@BBC I did an inspection on mine a week ago. They only removed the case, not the screen protector. This was at Sandton City iStore.
Any questions about it being on contract?
I bought my phone off Carbonite so not sure if it's contract or not.
Will they be able to check with the IMEI / Serial no?
