yes very rude dammit. lol. never owned a lcd before so not in the know of these things but thanks for the help. Asked the guy to keep me one.

Ok, now I am planning to buy this 50" tomorrow at Game. However I need some expert advise on the laptop to this plasma model. I would like to connect my normal laptop(s-video & 15 VGA Port at back) to type and use skype etc on the plasma. I would prefer to keep the hdmi's for the pvr and media player. All that is left is the components. Is is possible, what would the picture quality on the screen be for typing and sitting from a 3m distance.

Personally, i wouldn't use my plasma for a PC screen. There are 2 factors to consider. 1 - the nature of the tech. Plasma is not "static image" friendly. Ie, there can and probably will be Image retention on a static image, like a PC desktop. It's not permanent and it gets less frequent as time goes on. For some it worries them, but for most it's a non-issue. The TV does have measures like pixel shift and screen wipe to counter act the effects of IR. 2 - (probably get flamed for this) but the picture, note from a PC display point of view, is not as clinically crisp as an LCD. Again, this is strictly from a desktop view. So you may find the lettering a little dull in order to type. I do a lot of PC work on my plasma, and i barely see the difference, but then some people are more strict than me. Other than that, personally, you cannot fault a plasma. Picture is superb.
 
Hi guys, at the moment I have this old 84cm Sansui TV, the thing hardly works anymore so I am looking for an upgrade. Now I have no HD stuff what so ever, so I am looking at getting a 108cm (42") plasma screen. What should I look out for, prices that I should be expecting?
 
Game has a really good specials this week: Samsung 42 inch HD ready plasma for 5999, 50 inch HD Ready plasma for 9999. Absolutely fantastic deals IMO.

That 42" one seems perfect for me. I've spoken to a few people and they say that phospher burn in is no longer a problem, so I should be fine with them. I'll take a look at them on Friday.

Yep. Good luck. I have both LCD and Plasma and the Plasma is far superior in my opinion. Others may disagree though.

I have a bit of IR issues but it goes away very quickly so doesn't bother me at all. The PQ is really great though even on normal SD DSTV.(even the SABC ones) SD DSTV on the LCD is not vey good at all.
 
I'd say the major thing stopping me from using a plasma as a PC desktop monitor is the image retention. Task bars and panels that are pretty much ALWAYS there are a problem.

But for PC gaming, it's a different story, as most people don't play the same game 24/7 for long enough to result in image retention.

My main reason for going plasma is that I don't have an HD signal, and SD looks super crap on a LCD. Also, my lounge has huge windows, so all that light means a plasma should be best for me. I tried to go to game today, but they wer eclosed. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for all those you helped me out.
 
If you are in Cape Town, Game at Canal Walk and Kenilworth Centre have no stock of any of the specials left (Samsung 42"HD ready plasma R5999, 50" HD Ready plasma R9999 and the 40" Full HD LCD R6999) and said they probably won't have more until after the special. They did have a R6999 Full HD 40" Samsung at Game Golden Acre though.

Try Makro. They had the Samsung 37B530 (37" Full HD LCD) on special on Saturday for R6999. Not sure until when the special runs though.

It's not the same model, the one is 40" and the other is 37". But I was at Game on Saturday and they had no stock at all in the PTA and JHB area. Then I went to Makro and they had just placed the 37" on special (normal price was R9499).
