The old Samsung 5 series were on special 2 weeks ago for R6500 and I nearly bought one until I saw that it didn't have 100Hz. Looking back I probably should have bought one but now I can't seem to find them for that price anymore. Curious to see how much the new 5 series ones will go for. Ideally I would like to stay within 7.5k.

LG 5500 has 100Hz, according to reviews the black levels aren't great though and there is some blurring... Hmmm

Yep, Samsung use different panels which have higher contrast ratios/deeper blacks.

Damn, should have gone for that Samsung! I'm sure you will find it again at that price though.

Tbh I wouldn't worry about LED-LCD.

Also tempting to go for a Samsung 40inch series 5 LCD, saw one for 5.5k (50Hz though)

Ya, I got one of those (LA40C530).

PS3 via HDMI & Xbox360 via VGA cable both fantastic. Razor sharp image with no noticable fast motion issues (@50/60Hz)

Anybody got their new Samsung D TV's yet? I've ordered mine and they say delivery will be Thursday so I'm wondering if anyone has one already and how they are finding it?

I got the 51" D550 the day that Tafelberg Furnishers in Cape Town got them in. Picture quality beats the cr@p out of my mate's 5 series LED in both SD and .mkv bluray rip. I'm keeping the cell light, contrast and brightness quite low until 100 hours just to be safe but the picture still is excellent with no image retention issues after almost 70 hours. The screen is however very reflective so think twice if you want to put one in a room with bright ambient lighting. The built in media player plays just about everything. 8GB mkv files play flawlessly from my 2TB drive. I don't even bother playing from my PC like I had planned to, and having 2x USB ports is very convenient. I haven't tried 3D yet. The glasses are $50 in the USA but R700 at Tafelberg and R999 at the Samsung Store. So rather get from eBay where you can pick up a pair for $53 including Fedex 5-7 day delivery.

Thanks for the feedback - I am almost ready to buy one as well - I was hoping for the 51D6500, but it seems that they won't be available in South Africa. I am a bit concerned about the reflective screen... I currently have a 74cm CRT, and it is very reflective! Fine in the evening (when we do most viewing), but not so great in the day for watching rugby, etc. What TV did you have before this one?

Get D550. Put savings towards better curtains/blinds.

:D

Thanks mate for the reply. I checked out the 3D specs on ebay but I might skip the SSG-3100GB and go instead for the SSG-3300GR as they have a built in rechargeable battery.

I also got the 51D550 and I'm very happy with it.
The picture qaulity is really good but reflection is defenately an issue in the day when watching content with lots of dark environments or playing something like Dead Space 2.
The curtains do need to be closed for best viewing(I still need to setup the picture tho so it might get better).

I've got mine setup to my network and shared content through samsungs allshare and it works great.
Can browse and watch all my content on my Desktop and usb drives on the desktop.
Allshare does'nt auto refresh tho witch is a bit anoying cause the refreshing can take a while.

All in all though its very cheap for what you get IMO.

If you need rechargeable 3D glasses then rather get SSG-3300CR unless you wear glasses. The GR is quite bulky and uncomfortable as they are designed to fit over regular prescription glasses. The 3100s are the most comfortable. Battery life is around 70 hours and I've seen a pack of 10 CR2025 batteries go for only R40. More expensive doesn't always mean better :)

Unfortunatly I have super thick perscription glasses. The cheaper model just won't work for me but maybe I might go for one pair of each. Thanks for the heads up!

I went to Game Menlyn 3 hours ago and the special on the 50" Samsung and LG are no longer there.
Sammy PS%)C430 = R7.5k and the LG 50PJ250 is about R7.6k. Even other sores that had the special have upped their prices. Price fixing?

Hopefully they will still have it end of the month because I want one. I did "buy" the Sammy 50"er at Cats, only to be told that there was no stock.
Took my refund and paid my CC and thought I didn't need it. Now I want it again.:)
