Mac Support

Hi,

I have installed the Hauwei K3765 on a Apple Mac Book Pro without a glitch, works wonderfully. However I take that same Hauwei K3765 dongle and plug it into an iMac desktop and install the software off the dongle, but when running the application it doesn't detect the device.

Some history here is that the iMac desktop has a previous Hauwei (think the E220) on it and that worked, but now nothing with the new Hauwei K3765.

The Apple Mac Book Pro however also had the E220 installed prior to the Hauwei K3765... and it works fine. So not much logic there!

Had this been Windows I would have tried to delete any reference to the Hauwei devices in control panel - what approach would I use on Apple?

Any help/suggestions?

Follow the link in my signature, and download the latest VMC Dashboard from Vodacom's downloads page Vodafone Mobile Broadband 3.04.10.00.

Thanx man - I downloaded 3.04.08.04.dmg and it seems to have sorted the detection problem and it's working 100%. It doesn't however clear the usage in the application itself so I had to disable warnings....

Hi

I recently got the K3565Z USB modem. Works fine, expect the internet connection times out every couple of hours. It says connected in the Vodafone app, but i cannot browse. If I disconnect and and reconnect, it works fine. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I did call 155. The guy I spoke to didnt know what to do, except to say that I should visit Vodacare and they can sort it out. I have installed the latest Vodafone app (4.01.08.00) as from the Vodacom website. Are there any settings that I should change? I haven't changed any settings since I got the modem a few days ago.

Would it be better to connect via the Network Preferences screen? In that case, how would I track my usage?

Thanks:-)

Test that 3G card on another machine first (like on a PC). Just to check if it's not the network in your are.
At my previous house my internet used to disconnect ALL the time - at my new house it never disconnects...

The default settings is fine enough for it to work.try not to use the software to connect but just go and connect from the connection in network and sharing centre/network connections.could also be signal related.

Vodafone Mobile Connect - Mac Help

Hi Guys

I desperately need help setting up my K3565 3G Modem on my Macbook Pro running 10.6.6. I've tried various drivers and apps but evidently none of them work. Is there an application that I must download to run the modem on my mac or should I configure the modem in Network Preferences.

Please be precise with instructions.

Thanks Guys :)

The K3565 modem loads a disk image when you insert it, is that correct? If so, the next steps are quite scary but please first confirm that this happens...

I have had trouble with this modem and the latest OS X - Snow Leopard. What works is the following, provided the disk image mounts and has a thing in it called "Mobile Partner".

Double-clicking this eventually results in an unexpected crash. So we need to get creative and extract just the bits we need. Do the following:

(1) Pour a stiff one (Whiskey, Coffee, whatever your poison) and quit all running apps. Sip drink after each step.
(2) Right-click or Control-Click on Mobile Partner and from the menue select Show Package Contents.

A new window opens with a single folder called Contents. If you are not in column view, Command (apple)-3 to get into column view. Now, let's explore

(3) Click Contents Folder to reveal four items (Info, MacOS, PkgInfo and Resources).
(4) Click Resources folder to reveal 3 items (English, InfoPlist and MobilePartner.mpkg)

OPTION A: Attempt to install everything

(5) This sometimes works so it is worth a try. Double-click the MobilePartner.mpkg thing and follow onscreen instructions
(6) Restart
(7) Connect using Voda Mobile Broadband app.

If this fails or if you do not want the Vodacom software, try option B. This might be a good place to refill the drink.

OPTION B: Install just the drivers
The things we want are inside MobilePartner.mpkg. We gotta go through the same exercise as above to see its contents.

(5) Control-click or Right-click MobilePartner.mpkg and select Show Package Contents. A new window opens, hopefully still in Column view. If not, command-3

This one also only has one folder - Contents.

(6) Click Contents folder to reveal its contents (distribution, Packages and Resources)
(7) Click Packages to show its contents (HWNetMgr.pkg, HWPortDetect.pkg, Mobile Partner.pkg, MobileConnectDriver.pkg, RXTX_Tiger.pkg)

MobileConnectDriver.pkg has the things we need in it.

(8) Double-click and the Mac OS X Installer app will start. Follow on-screen instructions.
(9) Restart

We now have the drivers installed but nothing else - no vodacom software or anything. Do the following

(10) System Preferences ==> Network
(11) Click HUAWEIMobile-Modem on left
(12) These settings on the right

Configuration dropdown = Default
Telephone Number = *99#
Account Name blank
Password anything

Check show status in menu bar.

(13) Save apply and exit system preferences. The telephone menu on top right has a connect option - try it.

What USB modem to buy with the current version of OSX (10.6.5)

For anyone who is struggling to install the Vodacom connection manager (Vodacom Mobile Broadband application) on a mac running 10.6.5 (on the latest MBP) the only USB modem available from Vodacom that will work (I tried a few) at the moment is the K3765.

The K4505Z also worked but not available any more.

Any of the modems supplied by Vodacom should work. You just need the right software installed.

I tried all the versions from the Vodacom website, and so did the technicians at two Vodacom 3G stores in Cape Town. It looks like Vodacom has different versions of their software for different make of modems, and the version that currently ships with the K3765, works with 10.6.5

I have vodacom 3G. when I use it on my mac it works for a bit then the transfer rates go down to 0 & it stops loading pages? why is this?

Hi Zilk

Have you received a reply yet? Sorry, I did see this earlier and I have previously encountered it but for the life of my I cannot remember what the solution is. What modem is it? And what OS are you on?
