Mede8er models

It was a mountain - I've got all my download processes automated - I then had to get involved to fix the damn things... now they play fine without me doing anything except starting the download.

Rather ask on their forum. I have not spoken to them, so I would not know.
I have quite a lot on their forum and they are quite active on there.

I receive feedback within minutes.

Let's be honest here. Perhaps the person who answered the phone should have known what MKVs are since he is related to Mede8er. My guess is he would have known them as "HD rips" or something to that effect. We can't really expect people in low paying positions to be the most knowledgeable. Knowledgeable people have better jobs.

Ever tried getting technical info from Incredible Connection? :erm:

So Compros are now playing compressed header MKVs like the Inception that wasn't working for you?

correct, working 100%

I think its important to note here that if you got R2500 to spend, by all means go ahead and get a Mede8er. Im not disputing its an excellent product. But for those who want a very similar unit for less than half the price, I say Compro all the way

Yes I agree. He should have known what MKV files are.
HTC_Guy, do you have a Mede8er also? Why did you call them?

maybe my standards are too high... I expect a person in a technical department to know what the hell a MKV file is considering is one of the formats THEIR media player supports!

 again, my standards are too high apparently

I was gonna buy one, but I couldnt justify the R2800 at the time as I had just forked out R6k for a plasma. So I went with the Compro instead

excellent buy and worth every penny :)

I called them to discuss the MKV header compression issue and when they would be releasing updated firmware that would deal with accordingly.

I ended the phone call after he didnt know what a MKV file was.

Agreed.

Although it's about R2000 if they have an external. :D

gents can you help me out here with what you mean on HD sound?

no that clued up on the topic

:)

So the Compro doesn't do HD sound, where the Mede8er does? I am guessing the AC Ryan does it too.

No wonder the Compro is so cheap. :p

Good value still if you don't need HD sound.

Most downloads don't have HD sound though... they're just standard DTS at 1.5Mbps.... AC3 at 640Kb.s...

I own a Mede8er 500 and have had absolutely no hassles with it. I particularly like:

  • The good looks
  • The great menu structure
  • The play all formats (to date)
  • The regular firmware updates
  • The support - quick swap-out when USB port blew
  • Quiet operation - with internal 2TB green
  • Quick streaming setup

All I can compare it too though is my mates MVIX which is an absolute waste of time in comparison.

Just my 2c.

it (compro) does 5.1 which is fine for most people... I mean seriously now, you watching a compressed video file at like +- 5000kbps (MKV) and we gonna bitch about not having that tied up to 7.1 6.0 Mbit/s audio? :erm:

that just makes no sense to me. You might as well be watching the true uncompressed blue-ray to get the full experience ie. uncompressed video and audio

you get what Im say though?

no?
