This is not throttling, its denial of service, I cant even make a single connection
 
Going very nicely for me ATM, 130 kB/s during peak hours for me is 100% acceptable as long as full speed comes in fairly early (around 7pm) ..

And therein lies the rub... Would love to have clearly defined parameters regarding peak hour cause at the mo it's anybodies guess...

thats what i'm trying to find out too..

i'm currently on afrihost capped.

i won the R299 MWEB discount for my 4mb line, so i'm willing to pay the difference and try them next month...

if they are not up to scratch by end of april,i will try the afrihost uncapped service, they are cheaper anyway!
 
If they can keep the service at this level (100-200 kB/s ) for News & Torrents during peak hours and then full speed after hours (like 7PM) then I will have no problem at all staying with this package and will be very happy to do so!
 
To date I've experienced 0 shaping on the Afrihost product. It runs 100% 24/7. Unlightly that this is going to last but very cool for time being...

I've been SERIOUSLY shaped on Afrihost on other protocols besides HTTP.
 
Hi MWeb,

My question is about news.mweb.co.za.

On 21 March I was able to successfully download articles which were about 500 days old. Starting 2 days ago, I am now unable to download the exact same articles as it says "article not found".

If I understand correctly this is due to server retention. Has the news.mweb.co.za retention setting been changed? If so, why? When will the server retention be set back to the initial setting?

Please advise.

Hi Milano,

Yes there has been a major update implemented on the news.mweb.co.za service to fix the connection problems that were being experienced earlier. This should not have changed the retention period though (500 days is pretty old, maybe the content expired?), so I have escalated this to the relevant engineering team.

MWeb, thank you for escalating this to the relevant department. I don't think it is a content expiry issue as it definitely appears to be related to the retention period judging by other article dates which return the same "article not found" error.

I look forward to receiving further feedback as this is the primary reason for my enjoyment of the new uncapped service :)
