getting +-150k at the mo. its an improvement from yesterday, +1 to mweb!

Hi Warped,

As per my PM, I'm taking up your situation with our Client Services Mananger.

MWB.

Hallelujah!
Thanks to Quinton and anyone else at MWEB who finally managed to uncap the account!

If you're interested, make sure your account is on monthly billing (NOT annual) before attempting to get the cap lifted.

Is running trough a VPN throttled aswell, if so how bad is it?

hahaha its rather foolish to give the masses a service, label it as unlimited food, and then expect them not to eat as much as they possibly can, MWEB took too many steps too quickly here, and now the food has run out
Capacity Planning 101
@MWeb,

Still waiting for your official response as to what the time span is for "off-peak" on a daily basis and weekends. As stated before, it's completely random. It only became usable after 24h00 this morning, which is really late for "off-peak". People are also being completely blocked from services like news servers, rapid share and the like during the day, i.e not even shaped or throttled, just complete denial of service. What is your response to this?
Doubt they will release any such info, since there are probably no set times... they cannot predict the behaviour of users, which is what affects the network.
There will be some type of growing pains for any service of this magnitude, if your not happy then cancel and go with Afrihost or Vox, its that simple!
+1
wooooooohoooooo. where are the handlebars for this thing .. im managaing 0.1kb/s with torrents

EDIT: 0.2 kb/s .. warp speed
ROFL, love it! :D
MWEB was quick to respond initially, now that the paw paw hit the fan, why are you so quiet?
Yes, noticed this too. Not good... maybe he / she was just busy or in meetings the whole day, or off :D

Hi All,

Firstly apologies for the lack of response today, have only been able to pop in every now & then.

MWEB are well aware of the current capacity constraints on non-priority bandwidth (torrents, news, rapidshare etc.) and are pushing hard to alleviate the situation. The severe levels of shaping being experienced on non-priority traffic is not the norm, however this does not mean line speed all the time is either.

The non-priority bandwidth crunch is a result of a mismatch between additional capacity being bought online and the migration of the existing user base together with the unprecedented demand for new signups. Migrations/sales have got a bit ahead of new capacity deployment necessitating that we squeeze the non-priority traffic to maintain reasonable performance for the service as a whole.

We expect to have the situation rectified in the next few days, however we are reliant on Telkom commissioning the (already delayed) additional capacity. In the mean time MWEB has temporarily paused the migration of existing users until this initial capacity expansion is complete (to be followed by additional capacity expansions). Our engineers are also investigating way of fine tuning our bandwidth management policies to improve performance of non-priority traffic.

We ask for a little more patience, MWEB is still commited to delivering the most compelling price-to-performance uncapped offering to the market.

MWB.
Well done and Thanks!

Sorry, for another question:

I'm planning to cancel my TelkomInternet account and move to uncapped.
Now, I would have to cancel my Telkom account the 31st, to avoid being charged for April. But if I subscribe for Mweb on the 31st, would I be charged by mweb for a whole month's usage or is it pro rata?

Thanks!

Well, according to my last Telkom bill, you should've already been charged for TI for April. Your next bill would be for May. You pay a month in advance for TI. I'm cancelling mine today and hope and pray I get some credit on next month's bill.

I must also cancel my Telkom bill today. :)

Though, now that I think about it, maybe I should keep it... Telkom are bringing out a uncapped deal too... if I'm a 'current' subscriber when it does come out, maybe I'll be available for a 'bonus' or something (special deal if you will) and if I cancel and go back, I might end up paying another pro-rata, staying means I just 'blend in' hopefully.

Could anyone who has switched to MWeb give me the following:

Avg ping to IS/Saix game servers before 7pm and after 7pm
Avg ping to Eve servers before 7pm and after 7pm
Avg ping to WOW servers before 7pm and after 7pm

I like to download what I need and am not concerned about shaping that but if my gaming is affected, especially after working hours, then it becomes a big problem for me.

@MWEBRep: Any plans to offer a slightly unshaped service for gamers but keeping the downloads etc shaped?

my torrents are averaging 350kb/s during business hrs on G-Connect but i hear that mweb users are getting 20kb/s.

i understand that there will be shaping during business hrs but some are saying its not that different after hours.

is that the experience for most of you or just an isolated few ?

i'm trying to decide between mweb or afrihost 4mb/s uncapped.

if this has been discussed, apologies, i joined the thread late.

MWEB!!! I get a ping of lets say 50ms on sgs aim server(css), but on their surf server 100? Whats up? Even in other games I have an increased ping on some servers which was never a problem? I dont think it will be the servers since they all use the same ip? And why is gaming shaped? I want to play my games fullspeed online? Cant you fix this?
