Would gaming be considered P2P, especially on PSN (PS3) and Xbox Live (X360) ?
Hi XperiAnce,

No, but then neither are they classified as priority. Best way to describe this type of traffic would be neutral. Our Uncapped packages are not optimised for gaming, however we believe they should provide a reasonable experience most of the time.

The MWeb news server is flying this morning, which is going to make a load of international traffic I had scheduled for today completely unnecessary. Nice.

Thanks for the reply MWEB.

Would you say that P2P gaming as mentioned above has received the same priority on your past packages, such as your 3 GIG ADSL one?

For example, would my Xbox and PS3 gaming receive the same preference on your capped shaped packages as it would on your uncapped shaped* packages.

*I know you don't consider it "shaped", but you know what I mean ;)

I understand that the Unshaped packages are the ones more geared towards gaming, but I've never had any complaints with gaming on non-unshaped packages.

Hi XperiAnce,

The level of shaping on our capped packages is far less pronounced, so to answer your question, no the (effective) preference would not be the same.

If i sign up today, will i pay pro rata, or from tomorrow? Will that show on the sign up page, or only when MWEB debits me?

Thanks

Thanks MWEB.

I will sign up and test the gaming capabilities myself. That's the bonus of month-to-month contracts :)

Also, I have fully taken into account you posting here that this is not the optimal gaming package, so you don't have to worry about me coming back and posting some non-sensible statement claiming you lied to me and all that, throwing in some vague car reference ;)

All the best,
eXp

Hi Wasp_21,

From tomorrow (16th) the pro-rata charge will be 50% for this month.

MWB.

Thanks MWEB.

I'm really impressed you stick around on the Forum and answer questions. We used to have that same service with Afrihost. Pity things have gone awry with them lately. Keep up the good work.

Has anyone noticed the speeds are getting worse.
I posted that on the "Free The Web..." Facebook page and the "MWEB Guy" tells me to upgrade to a business package

If you guys are having speed issues (like myself) then post that information on the Facebook page, let their 18,000 members know so as to stop others from leaving their ISP's and coming to this one who is screwing us all and changing the FUP as they see fit.

Hell, I can't even play COD:MW2 online lately.

I have watched it go from 350KB/s (during the day) to 250, then to 150, then to 100 and then I started to get upset.
Then it got worse, and dropped to 50KB/s and now, god forbid, it's gotten worse, 20KB/s.

It can't really get anyworse - I mean, if it does, I'm disconnecting this ADSL router and connecting a 56K modem!

I was stuck at home today (sick) and my connection was going >330KB/sec for binary file downloads at around 11:00 am. Sometimes bursting to 440K/sec.

Don't forget hey, that MWEB also proxies stuff, so you're bound to get full speeds on certain things because it's probably already cached.

Why is this?

MWEB/Giganews, waste of time and money

I signed up with Giganews this week and after initially experiencing decent transfer rates 36KB+ I now only get 6-10KB per second any time of the day? WTF? I paid extra for the SSL and it made no difference, tried with the accelerator, different port numbers etc no imrpovement, however when I try downloading from Easynews my transfer speed is 40KB+, The only conclusion is that MWEB is throttling traffic to giganews servers! I mean this is a service I pay for over and above the services i pay for why should i be restricted?
