I don't have HTTP downloads yet :( I'm thinking of getting a account at Newshosting or Giganews but not sure coz 8gb a day isn't bad and I just don't have enough space, lol

Hope you guys know that MWEB proxy/cache alot of data.

Windows updates for example come down at 400KB/s
Updates to spyware doctor, malware etc, come down at 400KB/s but try doing eset updates and they crawl in.

(good example) I was at a client and downloading XP SP3 from my office (4mb) and I was getting 400KB/s - that's not possible as a 4MB line can only really output 50KB/s but MWEB (they are using MWEB) saw the file was the same as one from MS, sent it via their network.

got my mweb 4mb connection today. Only paying 50% for this month.

Speeds on astraweb +- 30KB/s. Was expecting closer to 40KB for during the day. Not a train smash though.
Expecting it to speed up later on tonight.

http downloads are damn quick though.

Certain web sites time out - mybb incl when simultaneously downloading via astraweb.

Any idea what the mweb news groups settings are?

I do NOT want to accept anything less than 100KB/s (astraweb) during the day.
That's acceptable as far as I'm concerned.

I can confirm that when http is maximum speed. Usenet and p2p is MAX 35kbs. Ive been with Mweb since the launch on 18th March. It was always 80kbs+ Now it has slowed to 30kbs. More people downloading.

my connection seems to be extreemly slow, right now I'm torrenting at 0.5Kb/s and it takes mwebs website about a min to load.

This seems like a throttle and not just shaping.

Torrent users should get themselves a vpn account. I suspected initially that a vpn connection might not work around the shaping, but tested it last night and it does work.

Note that might change though if Mweb decides to start shaping PPTP.

i am disappointed that speeds are down to 30kB/s on Giga during the day. Also noticing that full speed on Giga getting later and later. However as a total package, I still would choose this rather than going back to my Axxess Express+ account.

And piss off 1000's of business users! Not likely. VPN's cost money though and your run of the mill $10 account might not even support torrents. In the end, night time downloads is ok for the mayority of people I would guess. MWEB stated already they upping their BW so it should get better at night sometime in the nearby future. Afterall, it is a shaped service!!

They could argue that this is a consumer product, and businesses should use their business uncapped accounts.
