Nope! Your employees use normal ADSL at home to connect to their employers servers!

They'll probably get told the same thing. If it's work related or requires unshaped protocols then you'd need a business account.

People will be pissed, but they have marketed it as an account for the average home user who doesn't want to worry about being capped.
I was told yesterday by "The MWEB guy" to use the business package if I'm a power user...

Soon there should be no need to, young padawan ;)

Sorry to hijack the thread - I'm currently on Afrihost's capped service and want to upgrade to uncapped on my 4mb line. Afrihost seems to have lost it - is mweb uncapped any good? If so, when do they start to throttle connection speeds and by how much? Thanks ;)

4MB lines can DOWNLOAD 400KB/s ±
4MB lines can UPLOAD 50KB/s ±

Ah soz, missed the part of how it was from your server to theirs ( your link being 4mb business at the office and not a server in a IDC somewhere I'm assuming ).

Torrent users should get themselves a vpn account. I suspected initially that a vpn connection might not work around the shaping, but tested it last night and it does work.

Note that might change though if Mweb decides to start shaping PPTP.

Where should we get a vpn acc from?

Yeap.
No funny server at MTN or anything so basically, if we were to have gotten full speed, it would've been 50KB/s but notice my face when bam, I start getting 400KB/s.
Then my boss explained it to me and it made sense.

The quality has certainly dropped, trying to remote into a PC using Mweb uncapped, normally very smooth, lately incredibly crap

I have a question, why is online gaming so bad atm? I know its not a priority for mweb, but surely playing onlinegames like wow, gw, co etc is less than downloading via http even

So, here is my problem currently:

These tests should never be shaped, UNACCEPTABLE!

Torrents at MAX 20Kb/s, News at Max 22Kb/s.

Gaming, not functioning. Wii, impossible to connect even. Possibly because of ping (okay, although it could be better).

Anyone else getting speeds like this on shaped protocols? I realize its shaped, but this is not okay.

More distressed about my browsing speeds. Whats wrong MWEB?

Gaming sites are also affected with time-outs, 25% packet loss and 'unreachable' errors. Even their own games.

I find that if you have a torrent open - any torrent - your web browsing experience suffers a lot. It's NARROW BAND that's what it is.

Actually that sounds like your throttling your own up pipe. I wonder how many users of torrents realise that you need to actually limit your upload speed globally to 80%? :whistling:

Well if you're uploading at full speed then it's going to be very difficult to send requests to websites.
