YAY finally have a date(didnt take that long actually but 3 weeks is long for me) will be getting adsl soon. 29th i have my anologue line. For the adsl line who is quicker(install) and better, mweb or telkom?
As far as I'm aware the only reason things are "shut down" at 8am is because that's what time demand for priority protocols starts to peak. MWeb doesn't have different shaping during the day and night as far as I can gather from previous statements. It just so happens that everyone rocks up at work at 8am and logs into facebook and there go your usenet speeds
This also means they don't ever "open the ports", the network just becomes less congested, so you are able to get better speeds on low priority protocols.
Are you crazy?! Why didn;t you ask for it at the same time? Get the self install, or get MWEB to help you with the ADSL part.
Mweb 4mb is greatloving the speeds, do use a lot of torrents but more Ftp..
and i get full 420kb/s when transferring![]()
i am thinking of getting mweb 384kb but i dont have a lan line where i stay atm.
i was thinking of getting iburst bcos its hassle free, no lan line needed but its capped
from the few posts i have read it looks like mweb has a good service but i have met someone who has a capped mweb account and they cant access google.
that is what they say, but even on public holidays, 8am down goes the speeds! mweb definately have some sort of switch, even if they say they do not. Monitor the speeds, weekend, weekdays etc. you will quickly see what i mean
Shaping is done dynamically, so there is no fixed time, and it also depends on capcacity vs demand.
The short answer is that any time a 'normal' person is awake, the network will be busy.
MWeb doesn't disclose their traffic, but if you look at a 24 hour data graph from the JINX (Joburg Network Exchange), you will see that between 00h00 and 06h00 (weekdays) to 08h00 (weekends) is usually the best time:

What part of my earlier post don't you understand. Nobody flips a switch. Its normal human behaviour that lots of people logon at 8am. Look at a traffic graph (JINX).
Any suggestions welcome. I've completely and utterly exhausted my options.
Can/Have you tried a different router?
If you can't get hold of one, you can put the router in bridged mode and make a pppoe connection from your PC. See if that makes a difference.
Downloads with a different router (and different username) on my line also fail.
Downloads with my router (and my username) on a different line complete.
... Its normal human behaviour that lots of people logon at 8am...
HAHAHA!
It might not be a 'switch' but it is a 'setting' dude and 'smart' companies do it.
MWEB do the same.
I am not stupid! Why on a public holiday do you experience the same speed as per normal work day? PLEASE read my post before assuming I am a retard!
