MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

I am not stupid! Why on a public holiday do you experience the same speed as per normal work day? PLEASE read my post before assuming I am a retard!

I assumed that you would be able to extrapolate from my comment. I have read every post in this thread (and the Q&A thread), and your comments seem to indicate that you have not understood the issue.

If you look at a 7 day traffic graph, it is clear that every day (inlcuding weekends) traffic builds up very rapidly between 6am and 8am:

As soon as traffic reaches a threshold, then shaping starts to occur on the low-priority pool.

As I posted earlier, there doesn't seem to be an 'off-peak' nowadays.

I think that a few years ago there were more business users than home users, so evening and weekends used to be quieter. With cheaper ADSL the ratio seems to have switched, and there is no such thing as 'off-peak' any more.

Is it just me or @ exactly 8pm did my downloads jump to 420kbs on Usenet?

What are the speeds like on rapidshare (premium) with the mweb uncapped 384k?

Getting poor speeds on the mweb news server (3kb/s even after 11pm at night) and rapidshare free (2kb/s).

Browsing is fine but downloading is useless (rapidshare, news server)

edit: oops didn't see a thread had been made :P

Anyone that have been experiencing http and mail "outages" in the last day/couple of days?
Hamachi VPN runs mostly fine and news downloads also fine.

Free file sharing sites and free news servers (if content is uncached) are dog slow on any account. If you want a fast reliable download source, you have to pay up for it... or stick to p2p.

Did anyone else have a major ADSL 'slowdown' around 1pm on Mweb Cape Town? My ping times were > 600ms for about 15 mins...

MyBB also seemed to be offline around this time (I can't see any threads mentioning this?)

the whole of Mweb seemed to go offline, capped accounts aswell.

OK, I was just surprised that more people hadn't complained...

The MWeb Network Notices page does indicate a problem from 12h50:
http://www.mweb.co.za/helpcentre/NetworkStatusNotices/tabid/1765/Default.aspx
ADSL services in the following area may be Slow : all regions

The status is still listed as 'Open' at 14h00 , but seems to be fine since 13h30.

One of my 'contacts' suggests they were doing network reconfiguration...

Yip, I logged on to myBB thinking there would be a plethora of complaints but there were none so I suspected a localized issue...

Or maybe necessary reconfiguration. Let's give them the benefit. I'm sure they know what they're doing and aren't intentionally irritating their users :)

This is not true. I get full speed on the SAIX news server with my free Telkom local with my 384k line. And surely paying for a news server on am uncapped account would not help as it is the protocol that is shaped?

You get line speed if it is cached.

Sorry, i should have been more specific, i was referring to after hours and weekends. The member here was alluding to slow speeds even after 11 at night. If this is the case this service is of no interest to me.

I asked in another thread, with no response yet, about the speeds being attained on the mweb news server from 384k users. It does not look good from the comments here.

My speeds on the news server, even from Astraweb is very slow all the time. It sometime goes up to 20kb/s using grabit, but most of the time it is around 6kb/s. Not very impressed.

If you are pulling stuff at full speed why do you want uncapped lance? You seem to doing just fine without it. Rather leave it and carry on using telkom local. What do you use for int when the blended bandwidth is finished though?

Sounds like you are very worried about uncapped so ignore us high bandwidth users, we are lying to you. We cannot pull 100+ gb a month at all. All lies i tell ya :D. Personally lance i would get the uncapped account for 50% this month and tell mweb you want to test it, if you do not like it cancel for next month.

It will cost you 95 bucks.
