hey guys is anyone else still having YouTube issues?

Used to be lightning fast, but now for the past week or two, it has been dog slow... Have to wait for ages to buffer..

And it's not just Youtube... Dailymotion as well and some others..

Browings and downloading is fine though?

If you are pulling stuff at full speed why do you want uncapped lance? You seem to doing just fine without it. Rather leave it and carry on using telkom local. What do you use for int when the blended bandwidth is finished though?

I currently have a set up that uses four ISPs, route sentry etc... One single uncapped account will be a lot easier. And cheaper overall if it does what i need it to otherwise it is of little use.

Sounds like you are very worried about uncapped so ignore us high bandwidth users, we are lying to you. We cannot pull 100+ gb a month at all. All lies i tell ya :D.

It is less about lies and more about not getting answers... I have asked what speeds 384k users are getting on the mweb news server, and at what times, and am yet to get an answer, or i've missed it. I am not a fan of torrents. I enjoy what news servers offer and how.

Personally lance i would get the uncapped account for 50% this month and tell mweb you want to test it, if you do not like it cancel for next month.

It will cost you 95 bucks.

That would be great but they told me that adsl installation through them would take 4 weeks! Seems i'll be a lot better off with a line through telkom. Will make moving easier too if they suck...

My speeds on the news server, even from Astraweb is very slow all the time. It sometime goes up to 20kb/s using grabit, but most of the time it is around 6kb/s. Not very impressed.

Thank you, missed this answer. This does not thrill me. It reminds me of my IS days... Not good!

Where are guys getting their hundreds of gigs then?

I'm getting roughly 210Kb/s on my 4Meg line... my neighbor who I hooked up this afternoon is getting 28Kb/s right now. Since I switched to MWEB I haven't looked back. Their speeds have degraded since launching, but when just when you think speeds have degraded to "as bad as it could get", MWEB notifies us they have done an upgrade and they're back up again.

Lance it is a bit late but do you have adsl? The way i read your post would indicate you do not have adsl.

At the moment i downloading at 250 from astraweb, streaming of 977 music is dodgy tonight as is youtube. Yes i have stopped my astraweb still not streaming lekka.

If you have adsl lance i would advise just testing the service, there seems to conflicting results and loads of moles around so you never know who is talking kuk anymore.

One my torrents run slow (between 30 and 90 kB/s), while others run at 200+ kB/s. And the slow one is well-seeded too. It's hard to predict what speed you will get. In general I am happy, the things I do with this account works perfectly for me (Web browsing, SL, SSH, VPN, etc).

So far my usage page says 50GB (!!!). I was away from the 7th to the 16th, with my torrents stopped, and had 384kbps for the first few days of the month (Telkom screwup, fixed while I was away). Unfortunately I cannot say MWeb is wrong, as my firewall's logs agree with their accounting.

My place was locked, and I live alone :) I checked the detailed stats, and there was little usage for the week I was away. Less than 1GB, in any case, which points to updates plus a few automated things. I just don't always realise how heavily you can use a system while you're not even noticing. Normally I would've been keeping my eye constantly on my download meter, but the past few months I haven't really, and it tends to spiral out of control. It just took me by surprise.

In contrast, my March usage on MWeb was a mere 38GB (R14/GB - not too bad).

I don't download heavily most of the time, I just grab what I think I need (mainly ongoing stuff) and use the net as the mood takes me. I really don't have the need to download many 100's of GB of data often. I do, however, keep a full collection of CentOS and Ubuntu DVD's, so I can clone VM's for work, and I have NO intention of paying per GB to download those.

My WA account has been converted to a Prepaid account (I still have a bit left there). While I was on DC and Screamer I couldn't dare discontinue it, because I needed a backup link every now and again. So far I haven't needed this on MWeb.

Ok, I haven't read through all the pages of this thread, but I get the idea my problem has been experienced by other, but I'm not sure if there has been a definate answer/ feedback about my problem:

Is news (NNTP port 119) being shaped because my download is very slow (with mweb news sever and/or a overseas free news server)
I am on 384 uncapped and only get 10 kb/s (out of 40kb/s line speed) in peak times and maximum 15kb/s after hours.

I have tried with a CAPPED Mweb DSL account with the same results. However, if I switch to a telkom CAPPED ADSL account (using free overseas news sever) I get full line speed.

Seems it does not depend on which news server I use, but that it is rather shaped by protocol.

Anyone else experience this?

Yes Port 119 is heavily shaped during the day, it picks up late at night depending on the shapers moods.
You can try several news servers - the result is always the same.

It's shaped by protocol, not by port. Otherwise people would get away with using SSL and different port numbers.

guys, my free 512 uncapped account is flying at 450kb/s at the moment !!

i'm on a 4mb line though...

does mweb open the taps sometimes and give full line speed ?

bodes well for when i upgrade to 4mb uncapped, especially after the whole AH debacle

My free 512 account on a 4 Mbps line is terrible tonight. Was ok last night.
