Hi redheadfan,

Is this just via your browser or using a (multithreaded) download manager?

MWEB.
You know very well that Rapidshare is on your VERY low priority list. Instead of blaming this user's browser or download manager (multithreaded or not), please look first at MWEB's protocols for the reason.

You missed the point. S/he's doing standard trouble-shooting to find the source of the problem. Take your bitchy sentiment somewhere else. I'm grateful to have an official rep. on this thread who is helping us solve problems. Stupid trolling comments like yours waste everyone's time (and mine in replying I guess). Of course MWeb is aware of their own shaping protocols. You are so cynical and negative that you automatically assume that the rep. is being as unhelpful and obtuse as possible. Shame.

Damnit. Now I've fed the troll.

Trouble shooting 101. If Rapidshare is on the low protocol list and a user complains about slowness, what should the answer be?

Hi Tanya35,

No lower than any other bulk download protocol (e.g. torrents, news etc.), thus the only differentiator would be the concurrent connenction (thread) count. Hence my question whether a browser (most likely single threaded) or download manager (multi-threaded) is being used.

MWB.

And this is a problem becasue? It is a shaped account, download protocols are shaped heavily. Not just a troll but a stupid one at that.

In my experience, a multithreaded browser doesn't help. Where a single thread would download at, say, 35kb/s, a multithreaded one would just split the bandwidth into 5kb/s // 5kb/s // etc...

BTW, If you have the pirate version of IDM, then it also turns the multithread into one and limits the resume capability :)D)

On the comments in Facebook I see a lot of official replies deflecting blame from MWEB onto Telkom, time of the day, browser, and even router - which is disappointing. Honesty really is the best policy.

Rapidshare is downloading via browser, but that is with active newsserver downloads as well.
So the rapidshare download would get equal priority as each newsserver thread? That would then figure because I run about 10 threads between two PCs.

Thanks

That makes sense then. You have a limited bandwidth on MWEB. If I open a torrent - a very small, slow torrent with only 1 or 2 seeders - I then can't download anything else on HTTP with the remainder. You just can't have several downloads going at once with any reasonable speed.

Hi Tanya

[Sorry to derail the thread a little]

You claim honesty is the best policy - and clearly target all your ISp unhappiness/blame at MWeb - not any other ISP.

So in keeping with your 'Policy of Honesty is the best Policy' - Please tell us who you represent. It really is very bad for someone to consantly target one company and not disclose who they represent. Atleast we know that MWeb Guy is from MWeb...

What are you going on about? All of those are COMPLETELY valid reasons. I've recently experienced a frustrating downloading problem which had NOTHING to do with MWeb whatsoever. Your unjustified and vitriolic anti-MWeb stance is tiresome and shows that you don't know WHAT you are talking about. Seriously, just shut it unless you have something worthwhile to say.

I don't represent any company. This is the opinion of a customer, whether you agree with my POV or not.

It is similar, but you are correct, even if I don't see it mentioned in the above post.

Yes, you've been spamming Facebook with it as well.

Malema kicks people in their studio.

Do you have a nice studio? Never seen the inside of a trolls studio before.
