Yup, the last two nights my downloads have PEAKED at around 18kb/s.

They're currently going at 0.6 - 4kb/s.

Unbelievable :(

Interesting reading all this feedback. Less than a week to go and I'll need to decide whether to keep my 3GB Afrihost account, or switch to an uncapped solution. Currently using the free (for a month) uncapped (512K) account from MWEB. It's been really cool, so going back to 3GB (capped) may be rather unpleasant!

it's only been like this the last 2 days for me as well so lets give them time to sort it out, iirc the mweb rep did say they were doing upgrades and system maintenance so lets hope it will be back up by tonight hopefully

my free account has been reliable ever since i got it..
the average speeds after hrs are 70 kb/s..bursting to 450kb/s .

i'm torn between the Axxess express account and mweb 4mb...

i hope mweb will live up to my expectations!

As mentioned a few times already shaping will impact us all - it does'nt matter what ISP you're at. I have a mate with AXXESS uncapped and my MWEB uncapped offering is superior more than his.

We compare speeds recieved, megs downloaded en when shaping kicks in.

Hopefully they just having growing pains at the mo' but I have also noticed that the speed isn't what it was when I first signed up. I'm reckoning that they still need to know their user base and what we're up to. Would love for them to give me my own "pipe" so to speak and have me decide what I want to do with my bandwith.

Hi XperiAnce,

Please can you specify the download protocols/sites used, your package speed (384?), your general location & the time range during the night when you observed download speed only peaking at 18KB/s.

Regards,

MWB.

Hi MWEB Guy.

P2P downloading on a 384k Uncapped account.
Staying in Morningside, Sandton.
Full HTTP speeds so no line issues.

Downloads during business hours only going at 6kb/s.
From 6pm - 2am it averaged 14kb/s.
From 2am till around 7am it averaged 18kb/s
7am+ back down to 6kb/s

Thanks :)

Rapidshare seems to be a major target for throttling. I only get about 2 - 5kBps on my 384k MWEB account.

Otherwise for the price the service is reasonable. You definitely see the newsservers being throttled, but you always have access and apart from a general outage I've never had problems browsing. Sundays are the day at the moment that you get near full speed on downloads.

I've only downloaded 43GBs so far this month - normally I'd be on about 51 Gigs (70 gigs total for the month)

So overall I'm happy with the product. I hope Telkom get forced to reduce their prices and I hope the Eassy cable further improves our bandwidth.

The only issue is I think they should give us full speed if we are downloading a cached item from the MWEB newsserver.

At work they've moved us to a 512 uncapped (not business connection) and browsing has been noticeably slower and downloads also, but considering we are 14 people on a non-business connection it is quite impressive. It's definitely usable during the day and I'm happy with this service as long as it stays at current service levels.

Hi XperiAnce,

Can you expand how you are performing downloads e.g. torrents, news (local or intl), or Rapidshare or other http based (browser or DL mgr)?

Hi redheadfan,

Is this just via your browser or using a (multithreaded) download manager?
