Mweb Guy care to shed some light on my last post, about torrents being dead during the day

Hi jeanres

Regarding queries raised here regarding file sharing sites and degraded p2p experiences. We have noted and investigated these queries and there is no configuration problem causing these experiences. P2P traffic does have the lowest priority and the p2p experience will deteriorate during peak hours and when network load increases. We always try to give the best p2p experience possible without compromising network performance, but please remember that it is a shaped and contended service and there is no guarantee of these speeds.

We do monitor the overall P2P experience on a constant basis and this is one of the benchmarks that we use to determine network upgrade requirements, but please understand that upgrades happen periodically on a forecast basis and we cannot simply add additional bandwidth at the drop of a hat when we see a dip in p2p performance. P2P users as a rule will always use up everything you give them and the more people who use it, the less there is to go around.

Regards
MWEB Guy

Thank you KromozIII

I also see it like that, I would also love to schedule my downloads, but know one has to stay up until 23h30 to do so..... and it sucks, I mean everyone has to do it know.... I am glad i am not somebody that has to get up 3 or 4 hours later afterwards to go to work...

jeanres, you magically missed the AUP/TOS when you signed up? It's clearly linked on the page for uncapped

http://www.mweb.co.za/productspricing/InternetAccess/ADSL/BigtimeSurfer.aspx
http://www.mweb.co.za/productspricing/InternetAccess/ADSL/InternetAddict.aspx

More about this product

Is it really uncapped?
Yes! You can surf, download and stream as much as you like.
MWEB has implemented a fair usage policy to ensure that everyone gets an
equal experience on this service. MWEB Acceptable Use Policy

What do I need?
An existing post-paid phone line (meaning: you get a phone bill at the end of the month).
An ADSL modem or router (buy one from MWEB)
A computer

I've done from 50 gb up too 300 gb a month. No issues.

:edit
and if you bothered to read it

I see that all paid hosting servers have been blocked. Filesonic, fileserve, rapidshare....
Thought it was shaping, not blocking.

You are not SHAPING Fileserve. You are THROTLING access to the download link. It never resolves before 11.30pm.

You seem to be skirting the Fileserve issues, and lump us in with the p2p guys. Please don't do that. Very different services.

Please, for the love of all that you consider holy, can you please ask the techies why you can not click on a Fileserve link and just resolve the address like you could a week ago.
Why is this being completely cut off, when you should really be shaping the actual download? Can you please ask the techies this?

I do not want to download it now, but I want to set up a download for after 12 midnight way before 11.30pm.

Please, I have been asking now for three days ... can you please ask your techies why I can not resolve a Fileserve address before 11.30pm with out the p2p cut and paste above.

This is ridiculous, I'm trying to download a 199 MB Bootcamp update and it tells me it'll take 5 hours? Please fix this crap. This is not on. You're techies ****ed up somewhere with the Akamai servers linking. Fix it now.

I'm trialing a MWeb account and Steam refuses to log in. Torrents are running at around 5KB/s. Good think I'm probably getting Openweb then.

Apart for some browsing and e-mail, mweb uncapped is now effectively broken/useless for the average PC user who wants to also Skype, download some multimedia, do youtube streaming, or just play some low-bandwidth games on Steam (heck, Mweb even have their own steam server and they can't provide the service reliably). Hardly freeing the web - blatant lie. Pointless form of uncapped internet experience, because when you hear uncapped you do expect a superior product (especially when you pay). False advertising, I'm disappointed. I defended and supported them initially, but things have changed. So much for a massive network overhaul - all those upgrades to their Telkom IPC links we heard about. So much for Seacom. You'd think after the initial uptake burst in demand, things would have cooled down by now, or at least by now capacity would have been increased enough. Indeed many customers have abandoned ship, yet still it seems they want to milk every last drop of profit they can from this one, even if it means losing half their customer base. We all saw what karma that approach brought to Telkom in the long run - seems some don't learn from the mistakes of others. Mweb, the more you shape, the more people are going to get fed up and terminate their service agreements with you guys. You're dealing with people here - the same people who have the power to induce the shareprice-crashing publicity virus ala "Incredible Corruption". We expect some ethical business practices (ie Service value for money) or face the inevitable - and that's no threat, it's objective caution... In fact what am I talking about, it seems that seed has already been planted before me. Unsustainable, or just plain greedy?
