I did the beginners course with Billy a few weeks ago, since I never rode a manual motorbike before.

It was beneficial. Prepping for the K53 course next, to get that license.

I don't understand the 650cc starter though.

I was never on a +155cc yet.

I got use to a scooter first, but I would have liked started on the 155cc Suzuki Gixxer I have now. This is the perfect beginner bike IMO.

Size, not to fast, easy to drive... Etc... Or is it because I never rode a bigger bike?

To be frank a 150cc is downright dangerous if you ever touch a highway.

650cc is pretty much about the fact that it's not all about CC but engine configuration.

They are large capacity but low power parallel twins. Pretty much the whole lot of them.

Which makes them great beginner bikes but also gives them longevity.

Small doesn't always mean better. Too small anyway.

Thanks man. That's something I didn't know. And I will change my viewpoint.

But what if my commute is never a highway. See.

I drive Stellenbosch Arterial and Delary roads, I don't need to exceed 100km/h.

I understand we don't buy cars like this., so 650 up is all round good. But is it good for a beginner?
 
Specifically 650-ish parallel twins.

The same logic doesn't apply for an inline 4 cylinder 600 etc.

A 150cc I feel personally is unsafe everywhere, but I can ride already.

But for more city use its probably fine.
 
650 starter bro. That together with super research.

I'm very glad SauRoN convinced me on the 650. Nice power to have fun and enjoy, not too much to get you in some real trouble PROVIDED you did your research.
 
Smaller bikes are way more fun/manageable on a daily commute through suburbs and slow traffic.

As long as you are aware that in faster moving traffic you are the flow one and need to be extra careful - there's nothing "extra" to get you out of trouble.
 
What do you guys reckon about this for a Friday bike?
