This morning was kark cold, and I didn't feel a thing... but hey, it's not mid-winter yet... so time will tell... I don't mind them getting a little cold, but I draw the line when I start to lose feeling in my finger tips.
 
What's the knuckle protection like on those gloves? I'm sure there are but I just don't see it.

So pretty much exactly three years old.

Will post an update when I get home tomorrow.

I thought they were maybe almost two years old. The RST branding on the left hand has come off but otherwise they are supreme.

As much as it looks cool you generally don't fall on your knuckles.

Obviously have it if you can but having moered off a few times it's the finger tips and insides that really matter.

You want that stitching to hold more than anything else.

Fair point, so far it's been the palm of hands and the top of my hand on thumb and index (the latter hurt like a mofo and was swollen for days!)

The knuckle protection might help if a stone or something hits you but I wonder how often that actually happens. I've had something hit my hand like once I think.
 
Btw, you guys seen that new 310 BMW? On Thinkbike they're saying they'll be going for R63k or something thereabouts.

Saw it. The Honda CRF250L has an adventure version coming sometime as well. But for the same/similar price the BMW should be the obvious choice, right?

We'll have to wait and see if the BMW ends up being a beginner bike that also does off-road or ends up being a more lightweight more hardcore GS.

Maybe it manages both.

The CRF is very much in the hardcore category and has a stupid price I believe.
 
How do you reckon a 250/300cc engine would fair in GS-type situations? Think it's torquey enough?

My off-road experience is near zero so can't comment much on that.

It will however be lightweight and generally the smaller engines are preferred for the serious enduro stuff.

I don't expect it to try be an enduro bike but it will probably handle easier off-road that the bigger boys.

Well, new back tire, managed to get the bikes leaned all the way down; knee touching!

Unfortunately it wasn't by choice, lost it doing about 30km/h in the wet. William Nicol is so damn smooth. Was about 16 minutes ago so was too dark to see the damage. I'm okay; nothing broken or sprained. The toe catch in the gear lever is gone, otherwise I think just scrapes. Will see in the morning. Banged my knee nicely, inside of my other knee caught on something and scraped. Otherwise all good.

Dude maybe bikes aren't for you?

Did anyone warn you about riding with new tyres? Especially in rain?

If I knew I was to ride in rain with new tyres I would take some sand paper to them just to be double sure.

Then again I picked up my brand new STR on a rainy day.

Only the rear was a new tire and it's the front that let go. Think it's just *** rubber, the rear felt solid in the wet, much better than the previous rear.

It's a pretty smooth piece of tarmac, in the wet it's really slippy which is why I was going so slow in the first place.

I plan on replacing the front soon, really impressed with the back.

I've had it once. It ain't all that fun. Wasn't even wet, or sand in the road. To this day I still don't know why or how it happened. Just know I was slowing down for the red light, on the brakes, and the next moment I was lying in the intersection next to my bike.

My first thought was that it was oil or diesel or something, but as far as I could tell, the road surface was free of contaminants. It might have been the painted line, but I can't recall actually being on the painted line at the time.
 
Painted line should only be an issue while wet anyway.

Unless you were under heavy (seriously heavy) braking then it would of course have less grip than conventional tar.
