Also, why is the axle not seated against the stop? I'm assuming that's part of the problem. Be careful of that. My sister wrote off her last GSX-R like that. The wheel twisted in the swingarm (wasn't torqued correctly when the previous owner adjusted it) and the rear brake pinned it in place. Instant high-side. She was riding the bike home an hour after purchasing it.

if there is no smoke or traces of a leak, then your bike is just using a little more oil than expected. What's the mileage like?

It was. I think something got caught/got screwed up and pulled it skew as it was firmly against both stops when they replaced the tyre.

There are black deposits on my pannier rack that is close to the exit of the exhaust, that is the sum total of what I see that shouldn't be there. Bike is at 42,000km currently

Not to mention potential lack of control from it slipping.

I've been riding in full winter gear with a t-shirt underneath just so I have options.

It's cool enough not to overheat and if I get caught out I just lose the overpants to make it cooler.

Or add the jersey underneath to make it warmer.

What type of mileage are you on?

Might be time to switch to a thicker oil now.

Black deposits more than like from brake dust not oil.

Mileage question answered which is still quite low.

Worth checking the drain plug is sealing properly as it might be leaking out there. Gasket maybe even crushed from over torque on re-install.

I would be very surprised if the brake pad on the right of the wheel was making the top of the left pannier rack go black and nothing else.

No trace of any oil on the sump guard either so the drain plug is probably installed correctly

Donford says it is likely unburnt fuel...
But still doesn't help explain why my oil usage is higher than normal.

I think I know how to solve all this... I'll buy a new bike :D

And I find a balaclava is much more convenient for warmth

Balaclavas would be more convenient, if there were some in my cupboard, which there aren't ;)

FAAAAAK dude - sorry to hear that. Seems to be a norm these days, but at this rate it is not going to take the biking community long to start going 'old school' on these faakers
