Of course maintenance was ignored.

Oh and the FZR, which sounded like a boring vacuum cleaner back then and yet now the noise I prefer.

Had a VFR400 pull up next to me the other day and it still sounds magical.

The link I gave is for a 4 stroke 250 cc Suzuki GSX-R250... It was a thing back then.

Yeah but as gamer16 said above wasn’t really a thing down here in SA.

Very rarely anyway.

And they were all slow compared to their stroker friends.

Ok, hands up: who rode a 50cc or a 125 in high school?

I had a Honda MBX which I swapped for a Suzuki Gamma at some stage, I also inherited my brothers RZ (he had a full fairing on it that acted like a fscking sail in the Cape Town wind!)

I never owned one but got to ride a couple.

Never ridden a 50 amazingly.

Looking for some advice,
I'm a complete noob and I want to get a bike to commute to work, 60km highway, and I also want to do some adventure riding on dirt roads. I'm looking at the F800GS, but it seems a little heavy for a starter bike, will the F700GS be a better option? There's not a huge price difference, which is why I'm thinking of just getting the bigger one.

They are identically the same weight wise.

Same capacity, same engine and everything.

Might as well just do the F800.

It is however very tall, so you would need to be the same to be comfortable or buy one of the lowered models.

The Adventure model is the tallest of them all. Whereas on the 1200 it’s the lowest.

Thanks, I noticed that it has lowered seats as an option. I'm 182cm, hopefully it won't be too much of a problem, any places you can recommend for training?(gp or nw)

I'm 183. The bike is the perfect height. Very comfy.
 
I have asked this before I think, but I'm now looking at it more seriously. Needing an upgrade - Don't mind second hand, but as I don't know a tremendous amount about bikes in all honesty, I'm looking for a reputable dealer in Cape Town; any suggestions?

I'd like something that can comfortably commute, but also manage longer trips and also carry a bit of luggage.

Around a 100 grand or so I guess? Any advice appreciated.

sport tourer? adventure bike?

im guessing you looking for something like an nc, 800gs etc
 
When I looked at this previously, I recall the NCs being one of the standout options, definitely.

That being said, I also quite like the idea of doing some interesting trips with the thing, so it might make sense to look at something that can handle the wilds.

At this point, my first main consideration is finding a good dealer, so I can get a sense of prices and options, the actual bike itself will follow from this.
 
Can’t go wrong with Donford Cape Town or secondary to that Donford Somerset West/Stellenbosch.

I honestly can’t call anyone else reputable, they’ll all quickly sell you a bike but support can be quite lacking after the fact.

There is a deal in Wynberg also specialises in BMW. Biketique I think. Have heard good things but no personal experience.

Also GS Traders in Bellville. Again no personal experience.

Yes I realise I sound like a BMW fanboy now, but I can honestly say it’s well deserved and I’m unlikely to ever look elsewhere again outside of a second bike that isn’t my daily transport and therefore needs less priority attention.
