MyBroadband to change its article comments section

One has to remember this is a publication first and a discussion/forum second.
I see them as almost two entirely separate entities. I've stopped being too bothered about what the blog / news side of mybb does as I'm here mostly for the forum. I think there's a lot of room on the blog/news side of things to grow and be a lot more creative but they're far too rigid with their approach to things (imo, of course). One of the things I don't like much is they'll often interview someone but instead of writing an in-depth, super-nerdy article, they'll string it out over 3 short & shallow articles which I have no interest in.

Thankyou!

(Why does ekske1 laugh at my honest question?)

It works pretty well to keep you updated on responses etc.

Only problem is remembering it exists as I don’t recall there being a browser plugin etc.

Exactly! I always point out clickbait articles in the Discus comments, as well as recycled articles and political articles that has fockall to do with Tech, but I already see my profile is marked so that every time I leave a comment it must be moderated first, meaning that MyBB cannot take any criticism at all.

Well done MyBB, shooting yourself in the foot. Soon this will happen to the forums as well and then you'll die out just like many other tech forums and news sites.
They never could take any criticism. I've seen countless small websites and come and go over the last decade about their inability to take constructive criticism.

And yet MyBB remains a top forum in our neck of the woods over 15 years later. Most of us recognize there's a need for someone to call the shots - have the final say. In a private business that's usually the business owners. If you think your 'constructive criticism' is the only valid voice, you're going to be continually frustrated.... yet here you and many others who are critical of how they run their business are... still hanging out daily. It's not as bad as you make it out to be and you are proof.

That doesn't mean they aren't hitting their audience or attracting new members.

Its not my fight. And in any case, I will say this. There are members here who post news articles to the site. And I can assure you, I read those. They are like a breath of fresh air in here. They're not click-bait, they're not copy-and-paste-from-some-other-news-outlet. And it is those I will read. But the rest of the time, its just fun to hang out here with an older demographic that still has a sense of humour and aren't all woke milennials.

I'm keen to see those. I don't think I've seen anyone do anything more than repost someone else's work.

Links? You're saying MyBB members write their own news articles? Anyone who has posted in the news section has probably been accused of posting click-bait.

And here I thought woke was a milennial term.

Chris The Brit is one such person, he posts some really interesting stuff. Yes he links to another site but, he does it so well it is engaging, readable and worth the click.
It is all this CRAP with words like "MASSIVE" and starting with "Here's how South Africa... blah"

Had no idea 'MASSIVE' or 'Here's how South Africa...' qualify an article as clickbait.
When quoting another news outlet, do you reword the heading?
Are you saying News24 and others are awesome outlets and never publish what you consider to be click bait?

As for "They're not click-bait, they're not copy-and-paste-from-some-other-news-outlet. And it is those I will read."
Please provide examples. Chris the Brit is not a journo and doesn't write news articles. He copies-and-pastes-from-some-other-news-outlet like all forumites.

Our plan is definitely not to delete critical comments. As long as the comments are valuable and insightful, they will be approved. In fact, we welcome these comments.

The problem is mainly with trolls and users who simply come in to make some silly, usually negative, remark. These comments are of no value and harms discussions rather than improve them.

What you mean to really say is, users who tarnish the reputations with factual information of your advertisers will be censored. It's been a clear and cut case over the last few years.

Apparently SA’s advertising regulator (now called the Advertising Regulatory Board) is busy drafting new rules for social media. In the end it could hit marketing & advertising falsely posing as- or pretending to be articles pretty hard. (If somebody is punting a product or service it has to be made very clear from the start that it is merely a punt).

So no more TK? Ever since TK had to go google ratings safe..

Lol what a load of bollocks, even commercial media publishes highly skewed articles deliberately leaving out critical facts to push a certain narative.

Secondly ASA or now ARB holds absolutely zero legal power, their 'rulings' are not enforcible and never have been so good luck to them...

I never read the comments any more. Too many trolls. Too few actually add to the story.

Would it not be easier to get rid of the Disqusting thing altogether and have people post exclusively via the forum instead?
