No Data connection but full signal

Hi everyone.

I have been using an old mf190 speedstick from cell c for the past 4 years without hitch.
Suddenly on thursday night it started to not work when connected at 3g or hsdpa, it always worked !

Is there something wrong with the speedstick or the cell c network ?

I reinstalled windows (clean copy) and then reinstalled the cell c software, the speedstick works when i change the setting to 2g as i am connected via the internet now via 2g.

When i adjust it to 3g it says connected but when i try to browse, the indication automatically changes to hsdpa from 3g, and it does not go to any site.

I went to cell c today, and found a customer with one of those nice 24gb sticks and he said the other day he tried to connect the stick said "unable to resolve dns server"

Now i'm wondering is our speedsticks broken or does cell c have a network problem ?

Can anyone perhaps give a hint, cell c customer service is non existent, they just pitch up straight rehearsed lines to their clients thought up by their supervisors, like drones echoing their operators.

This is in the west rand area and i am still having this problem. the stick updated it's software twice automatically and the final time it used my data bundle's megabytes to do so.

I'm not sure if i should buy another speed stick just to check if it is my current speedstick giving problems or try and wait a couple more days before i buy another one to see if it is perhaps the network. sheezz that one needs to go through all of this just find out whether they are having network problems or not is beyond me. anyway any advice would be appreciated.

Hi FlyUAv

I doubt very much it's the stick...lots of people here having these issues. What I can suggest it to put a sim from a different network in it and see (much cheaper option) and it will most likely work.

Thanks for the reply Chris, unbelievably a couple minutes after i typed the message the coverage is now restored ! Let's hope it sticks.
What makes me angry is that they are not willing to give one a status as to the problems they are experiencing just a simple yes we are working on a few towers, or software updates, how hard can that be, i almost shoved out another 600 for another stick from them just because they cannot tell me if they have a network problem!

I used a vodacom sim in a cellc stick before and found that my data would run down quicker than it should compared to using a cell c simcard, strange, must be that cellc does not like one using a vodacom sim in a cell c stick or something.

anyway thanks, if this problem returns, i will update on this thread. :)

Dont know how to add image to my post.. download at 8.07mbs and upload at 0.97mbs .. Montana in Pretoria

Bellville South - slow as hell:mad: and this is day four on my contract sim , please CellC sort out this mess otherwise I'm not paying my account.

Durbanville : no data whatsoever

After two years of great service, all has absolutely grind to a halt.
I have not been able to use a single meg (not 1 meg) the past 3 days.

Q: how does one determine network tower ID for cell c please?

Edit : around 1 AM this morning, speeds were great, but nothing during daytime

No throughput here. Started at 6:30pm. Can't do anything. Has to use 8ta.

Please Cell C we need information on what's going on and when it's going to be fixed. It feels like you are quietly laughing at us.

Again Joburg CBD was unusable most of the today (simmonds and fredrick) until everyone goes home at 5:30. Brief moments where experienced when whatsApps could sneak through.

Same useless service again today. They do not/will not respond because they know there is an issue with congestion but refuse to acknowledge it.

That's what I say as well. They know what the problem is, but they aren't publicly admitting to a monumental balls up on their end. I just wish they'd sort this out. Been over a month now, and they only got wind of it/started taking action once people on this board started making a noise.

I agree , A month has gone & still no sign of any resolution. Seems like a major "Network Congestion Issue" & i'm afraid this Network Episode is gonna painfully drag on for the next few months unfortunately.

I am in Durbanville and the service is intermittent. Not only that, between 1700hrs and 22-2300hrs the service is pathetic. A friend of mine in Bellville lodged a compliant to CellC and they tested the signal and the base station. He got the following response

Kindly note that adjustments were done on site 40672 in your area. The adjustments did not assist and there is no further adjustments that can be done. The area has been Identified and new site are in our 2013 plan to address the coverage holes in the area.

Both our phones show one bar signal (-103db). So he is stuck with a faulty base station till further notice. But he was shown how to roam on the VodaCom network and that has made it easier for him to browse the internet.

They do have a problem. I don't think it's not only in Bellville but looks like in a lot of areas. My belief is that it is congestion. The cheap data plans have allowed many people to jump on board. R155 for 1GB at CellC compared to R289 at MTN.

Unite against Cell C

A lot of us are experiencing data issues where there is no throughput (or very little) at certain times during the day. For me this happens between 6pm and 11pm every evening, though on Fridays it seems to better.

From what I gather it started for many of us at the beginning of February or at the end of January.

Cell C has so far reported here that there was a problem and then later on they reported that it was "fixed". Currently all we know is that their network team is supposedly working on the problem.

The thing is that we are sitting with a useless product that we pay for or have paid for. In my case it's a Giga 200 sim so it's not a contract that I can just get out of. I want either the problem to be fixed ASAP or my money back so that I can buy data from a Cell C competitor and I'm sure that many of you feel the same.

How though? This is where I need help and it will probably help others too. Is it possible to just take the sim to a Cell C shop and ask for a partial refund? I doubt it. Or must Icasa be contacted? Is there some other way that this can be reported? I just don't know what to do.

If we stand together though and do it in unison then the chances are better that something will be done.

Who is with me and what is our best way forward?

Now there we have it......the power is out of our hands and we can't use it!

At this point I will forward an official complaint to ICASA.

Not really sure if the grass is greener on the other side as I've read so many other threads of people complaining about other networks, with many opting to move over to Cellc oddly enough.

I'm starting to wonder if this "issue" isn't a national one that is affecting all networks?
