No Data connection but full signal

Not really sure if the grass is greener on the other side as I've read so many other threads of people complaining about other networks, with many opting to move over to Cellc oddly enough.

I'm starting to wonder if this "issue" isn't a national one that is affecting all networks?

I'm currently paying extra to use 8ta which although also not too great evenings is at least usable. But it's true what you say Purply, it's entirely possible. It would really help if we could get proper feedback from the networks.

at the moment CellC is the worst of the lot when it comes to network quality , from my experience the problem is related to network capacity , there are certain times during the day/night where everything works perfectly , but for the greater part the network clearly cannot cope with the load.

Upgrading the network to cope with the extra load is not going to happen overnight , the PR response from CELLC is failing as a stalling tactic.

I took out my iphone 5 on a straight up 200 Cell C contract and i agree with the OP that their data network is really unusable. Every website i attempt to connect to just times out. I must say though i also have an 8ta 20gb contract and i am thoroughly impressed and pleased with the service i am getting. Its the cheapest and the best in the market IMO.

I've been using Cellc for the past 3 years and I have to admit, it's never really been stable and fast, latency is obviously useless for gaming. Accepted the fact that it is always going to be a "last resort" backup internet connection. Never really understood why it's labeled 7.2Mbps when one rarely gets about 5% of that on average.

However 3Gee has a valid point, everything is just getting cheaper and cheaper with more people using the current infrastructure which is clearly not capable of handling the increasing load.

All in all my experience with various networks has been a continuous disappointment.

First thing anyone is going to ask is this limited to one location, or are you having issues no matter where you are?

I have issues on cell c's network every now and then, usually i drop to roaming on vodacoms network where speed is edge.

How though? This is where I need help and it will probably help others too. Is it possible to just take the sim to a Cell C shop and ask for a partial refund? I doubt it. Or must Icasa be contacted? Is there some other way that this can be reported? I just don't know what to do. [...] Who is with me and what is our best way forward?
I am with you. You are one of these unfortunates who bought product, a big package without checking the network performance on smaller bundles, or network just has deteriorated rapidly in your area, no matter. Service should be delivered.

Now seems you are leading the pack crying and asking for moral support. I tell you.... can't use, the best way forward is to give it away, so somebody else (lucky enough to live in a good area) can enjoy it and you will feel better.

I think I can tell you this, you have received a gift from Cell C and seems to forgotten it. It was my award, a tablet which I donated to you as I felt you would have better use of it (I am not a big fun of gadgets). So I think if you donate your Giga 200 to someone else, you will feel much better.

Just my thought...

Yes, sorry sajunky. I am frustrated. I am so tired of trying to get proper internet in South Africa that I just don't know what to do anymore. The funny thing is that I tested Cell C for a day in January and it worked perfectly. Then I went and bought the Giga 200 sim and things just went downhill from there.

I ask the representative here for help and he ignores my private messages. I see other people with the same problem and I wish I could help them. Help myself. But we are helpless.

Cell C did give me the tablet and I am thankful to them and to you. The Cell C who did that seems to have changed. I don't know what happened to Armand since I don't think the current rep is him. But back then it felt like Cell C was listening. If I asked for a reference number then they gave me one. If I contacted them then they knew what I was talking about.

Maybe you are right. I should donate the Giga 200 to someone else. Cell C has done me good once and here I am being all angry at them.

Thanks sajunky.

You can also sell it on MyBB, Junkmail or other Web site. Recover some money to get other bundle. I wish you the best.

i'm calling in and canceling my contract today. its a shame really.

what is the next best alternative for me?
i am on the one month rolling contract with Cell C.
i dont want to sign up for a 2 year contact due to the market changing so much.

so pay as you go is my only option now.. who offers the best bang for buck? MTN? Vodacon? 8ta?

Hi Solitude,

We want your network challenges to be resolved hence we are forever engaging our network team in order to ensure that you are able to access the internet. We have again taken up the matter with our network team and we will provide you with feedback as soon as we receive feedback.

I too have totally given up on Cell C. After 3 years of great service, my internet bandwidth went to zero overnight. It has now been like this for almost 4 weeks and I have had enough.

I also agree with other posters above. When you sell more bandwidth than you can deliver, there really is no "solution" to the problem. I will be cancelling my contract either today or tomorrow and converting my 2nd dongle over to 8ta, who have been great so far with genuine download speeds of up to 13mb/s and a very fast, smooth 3g experience.

Hi Cell C rep. Thank you for the reply. I just got a call from you guys. Was it you that I spoke with over the phone?

I'm glad that someone at least phoned me now. But yes the person over the phone said it's because of congestion problems. So yes, for now it does look like it's a good idea to move to another provider until Cell C can sort out the problems in the area.

The real problem is the feedback itself.
When an problem occurs, an incident is raised and network X resolves it.
However, no mention is made in the feedback of the cause of the problem or preventative measure put in place to ensure it does not occur again.

While you at it... please sort out my coverage in Fairlands.
I've learnt to live with EDGE, but i cant even receive or make a call. I have to walk around the our building trying to get a proper signal to make a call.

Really sad. I'd hate moving to mtn, but they have awesome coverage here :(

You are welcome, you spoke to the manager in our department.

I find certain stations are highly unstable andf there is almost no pattern to the issue. One minute you can only get data on EDGE, then next nothing at all on 3G, then a minute later 6,4mbps down. this all heppens in 5 minues without me moving from my desk (Joburg CBD) righ now. At home in Sunninghill I have never had the slightest issue.

If you guys are using 3G routers you should try the tinfoil corner trick thingy. I've had a Giga200 for the past 2-3 months and initially my connection was quite shaky, but after applying this trick I get a stable 400KBps download speeds and sub-100ms ping times.
