There remains one single issue on the network right now: HTTP downloads. 10Mbps and up customers are already seeing massive performance increases as well, for torrents and nntp which is previously where the major issues existed. But HTTP downloads is an area we are aware an issue persists.

I would totally enjoy anything but 30KB/s and below from coolrom :D

This has been a "problem" on Cybersmart's network for years now, I had both capped and uncapped with them as we also used to be a CS reseller at my previous job. No amount of talking to them at the time could even get them to acknowledge a problem, so good luck with that. I'm pretty sure its an inherent part of their shaping to limit single thread HTTP downloads. The thing is that nobody really notices as most people use DL managers for their large downloads anyway and everything/everyone else doesn't really notice when HTTP is only at 10% of line speed per thread.

Has constant packet loss been a problem as well?

Yup, Was with them for a year and a half, Business Uncapped and Capped.

Both accounts had the exact same issue, Only fix was to multithread, Which does not work if you are downloading through a browser.

@crystal web, How to fix: Move to a different network provider all together.

I wonder how long it will take CrystalWeb to realize Cybersmart sucks and move over to a different network all together. Probably never.

you forget who the founders are, they're anything but stupid

Did you see a post of me calling them stupid? No. I asked a valid question. When will they realize that Cybersmart is a terrible network that it has taken them over 2 months to resolve the http issues and they are still unresolved.

I fully appreciate the lengths that CrystalWeb are going. But now its a further delay until their new symmetry network is operational. How many more delays until I can get what I paid for?

"but even the Cybersmart backbone will be getting better and better each day" Almost fell off my chair when reading this. Cybersmar'ts network has been ****e for years and will be ****e for years to come.

Http downloads has been a major inconvenience for me, and i had to get a backup account to update stuff. Really feel that the money i am paying for this service is not justifying the service i a getting.

Respecting commercial, contractual, and legal responsibilities are the cornerstones of operating a successful business. If we were to shirk these, nobody would have internet tomorrow. There are very good reasons why we've been quiet on numerous subjects over the last few weeks, and that's because certain aspects of a business at some points become potentially sub judice.

It should be noted though that Cybersmart's backbone is notably more solid than many others we have tested over the years, and especially over the recent weeks and months.

I do hear your concerns, and they're valid - hence why we moved so swiftly to rectify it by all means possible. One of those means is launching the symmetrical network which has other massive benefits. The other is taking control over the capacity directly. So I believe we've not only addressed the problems in the long term, but the short term too. When asked for a specific date that http downloads will be resolved, I'm unable to answer that as I haven't been provided with an answer. This infuriates me more than you, I can assure you. So what did we do? We invested in legal and commercial measures to rectify this without having to rely on these obscure dates any longer. That to me is an ISP I'd have happily given my money to even before we started Crystal Web, and that is the pivotal question that we asked ourselves at every turn when we looked to ways and means to resolve things in the short and long term for all customers. You need to be able to trust that we have your best interests at heart, and not just our bottom line. I'm going into more detail than I should now, but we won't turn a profit now for a good 24 months following this move - but the options were: protect our profits and solve things in the short term (i.e. our short term gain for your long term loss); or resolve things properly once and for all (i.e. our short term loss for your long term gain). We're not cadre politicians, so we chose to invest massively in the symmetrical network all the while knowing things will continue to improve on the existing network as well. Why? Because it's simply the right way to build a successful, long term business, and the responsible thing to do for our customers over the long term too.

I think you'll be surprised at how quickly this goes up and is ready. The choice is: wait for an ETA, or do it ourselves. We're doing it ourselves.

@CW
How much will the Telkom Network freez play a role, if any?

Not all that much, but this time of year certainly adds its own constraints. We planned properly though. Ordinarily it would take a good 6 months to build a properly deployed network. We're already in the final stretches of this as we speak.

You know what CrystalWeb- I have stuck by you from the beginning. I will continue to support you. Please don't let me down.

Thank you.

Crystal Web, I commend you on your efforts and investing in getting a new backbone.

I am still however concerned about Cybersmarts Network as we have seen in the past, Their network performance is not the best.

Why can you not just move backbones all together, Provide the months notice or 6 months notice or year notice, Whatever it is - I wouldn't trust cybersmart as far as I could throw them.

Colour me impressed. I did not see that one coming!

I will throw back all the way to the beginning of CW, when it was announced that Cybersmart was the backbone they were going to be on - seems as if I was proven right.

CW, I am really happy to see these first steps in to becoming independent of other company's bull***** stories of ETAs. I am glad to support an ISP like this.

Cybersmarts backbone is terrible , why would they want to move there ? even mtn network is better than that

My Point exactly, My guess is that cybersmart have them tied into a contract or something to that effect.
