Let's not beat around the bush here - 9GB is a very big file.
Using it as a worst case scenario, but yes it is.
What I'm kinda thinking is that maybe the primary network can be used for streaming, and the secondary network for downloading? Depends on whether both are shaped or whether the shaping is network-dependant.
(I definitely see your point as well though, you still have to pay for and provide the same amount of data)

I like the model CW is using. Even when I was being shaped, it was never bad. The download begin with full speed and depending on size would eventually begin to slow down. I don't think I have it seen slower than 1Mbps.
Come midnight, the shaping is lifted and your download can get back to full speed, depending on how busy the network is.

Obviously this will not suit everyone, but for my needs it really works well.

Everything else stays unshaped, only big downloads are shaped, once your unshaped bandwidth has been depleted.

I really like it in the absence of a totally unshaped account witch I can't afford.
Most other accounts are shaped into the ground from 12 to 18 hours.
Granted, they are a R100 or so cheaper.

Geez, how is CW supposed to make a profit if we gobble up bandwidth as fast as they provide it :/

1am and getting 2m speeds on capped account with 10m line... just keeps getting worse.

Please go talk to support and let them see what's going on - it is 24 hours, they are available, and I've been assisting customers this evening as I'm up late in the office as well still working.

Whats the point...we all know what the problem is. If I use another isp then it is full speed.

Is this 2Mbps speeds on all protocols or just http downloads? If the http downloads then yes, if not then it's unrelated and support should be taking a look at it for you. I am personally offering my assistance here, and am more than happy to look into it for you, but I unfortunately don't know what account I am looking in to and obviously can't get direct feedback and results from your end via the forum so doing it this way is very difficult.

9GB is not big.

Just the fact that you guys even come in her to address the size of downloads on an unshaped/uncapped portion of his data, is very strange to me.
You guys have gone too far down the rabbit hole to come out now.

You need to stop calling these accounts uncapped, unshaped as it's clearly not truthful.

Side note: Farcry 4 is close on 30GB.
I paid for the game and the isp yet now the isp says the game is too big to download?

They're uncapped, and the first portion of the data is unshaped.

Recently there has been a major upstream issue with HTTP downloads, which is getting better.

No rabbit holes installed.

9GB isn't that big.

They released the AC:Unity patch for Xbox a day or two ago and that was 40GB.

That's not true though.
Large download will be capped regardless.
That is not unshaped, uncapped.
I don't care how you want to twist it, that is bordering on false advertising.

Not once did CW download a game via Steam at full speed.

Where do you see it stated that large downloads will be capped during your unshaped allocation?

That is my experience and the experience of many in this thread.

And why do you think I'm annoyed?
They state nothing but enforce what ever they want.
Blame the upstream provider, blame the line provider, blame ESKOM, etc.

No, but his example makes sense. Being shaped for, for instance, a FC4 download while you haven't even downloaded anything before that during the month, isn't great either.

Look, I'm not being totally unreasonable either - I know CW pays the same amount for the data regardless of whether we're using it for streaming or downloading. I'm just saying, usage patterns are different, and with the symmetry network coming into play maybe it'll be possible to split things off a bit so that streamers dont get penalised on downloads and vice versa.

Otherwise one could - theoretically - just get a 400GB capped account for more or less the same amount and be totally unshaped.

Herp derp derp.

The network HAS A PROBLEM with HTTP downloads at the moment. Regardless of size - and this has been acknowledged by CW, is caused by Cybersmart, and is being worked on.

Doesn't mean the intention is to shape your downloads.

Let me put it this way.
I currently pay less for 150GB on Vox.
It's is fully unshaped.

On CW I was using less than 50GB due to the poor performance whilst paying a premium.
I now have more data to use whenever I want, nothing dictated by the ISP, for less.

Go figure.

Dude, you're not listening.
My large downloads on CW were ALWAYS shaped and I never downloaded large files.
So it's not even a usage based system it's just not working.

Don't be unpleasant. I'm talking about in the event of downloads actually being shaped, NOT the current problems being experienced.
