So amazing to be informed about these things in ADVANCE of it happening. On other ISPs you are left in the dark until it happens, people start moaning and only THEN will a statement be released.

The 1st cannot get here fast enough for me to start with you guys.

CW, what is the main difference btw the 2 ?

I've had problems (read:slow and buffering) streaming certain video protocols with WA home capped (normal or pro) and find it worse than AH or VOX capped for Netflix, BBC iPlayer & XBMC/Kodi streams like OSS for sports etc.

Is this related to the home profile rules ?

Which specific services did you have buffering issues with on Web Africa? Is it only those mentioned?

It's difficult to say what caused your issues with Web Africa, but it's in all likelihood not related to the home capped profile at all. The services you mentioned typically work incredibly well on those profiles. The only shaped services are p2p/nntp in business hours or when the network contends highly for short periods.

Thx for the update CW.

It's a pleasure. :)

The new site also has a far more detailed network notice section where we can keep you informed of this sort of thing. We're also looking at introducing automated alerts for Telkom notices as well.

I signed up with CW yesterday for a capped 400GB+ account (yes paid full price on the 19th of the month) based on the feedback from here.

During testing I decided to pull a small 150MB nntp test file down. Lo and behold my speed is shaped to 100KB/s. Support promptly points out that P2P (and nntp gets pooled under p2p) might be managed if there is load on their network - I understand not getting 100% linespeed but 10% on a capped package is bull.

Not a happy camper

Nevermind. School fees paid. Out of here.

Shaping a capped package exactly the same way as an unshaped package and telling me I need to accept it. No thanks.

Are CW still having issues with their news server? Speeds are still pretty low this side and downloads fail half way through. :(

I made the same mistake. They are amazing at advertising their products - just really **** at delivering what they promise.

I'll PM you the best config I've found there. ;)

All products are governed by the product descriptions, which do state that when the network contends, p2p will be affected. This is on all capped pages and defines how the product operates. it is advertised as such and not hidden in Ts and Cs at all. However the feedback from a few customers has lead me to try to change the controllers a bit to get these business hour speeds up on p2p and nntp which I am working on.

Yes, but to a much, much less degree.

FYI, this is identical to general network management on every single ISP. We're however pretty upfront about it. All ISPs contend p2p and nntp protocols on capped higher/first before other protocols. If this didn't happen, you'd be paying around R20/GB for data. It is however one that we try to manage a little better and there will be some changes we'll push through in this regard shortly.

Bull****.

The lowest priced tier 1 capped data on the market.
Free data from midnight to 6am.
Perfect for any-time streaming, gaming, downloads, and more.
Speeds as fast as your ADSL line can handle. No speed limits imposed.
200GB to use between 6am and midnight. 800GB for all midnight to 6am data.
All for just R595 per month. That's less than 60 cents per gig

In fact - it is only in your terms and conditions that you say the above is not actually true and you do shape the **** out of other protocols.

Yes, that is correct. Immediately below that both pro-rata and the contention on protocols is explained as well. It's not hidden at all.

/Nope - having in very tiny font the following

"This capped data service is offered unshaped and contended. Once the network contends, only peer to peer speeds in peak periods may be affected"

Is very different to the LARGE FONT "Perfect for any-time streaming, gaming, downloads, and more.
Speeds as fast as your ADSL line can handle. No speed limits imposed."

The same as saying "COME TO SPUR AND GET ALL YOU CAN EAT RIBS - AS MANY AS YOU WANT - NO RESTRICTIONS"

THen in very tiny font write "We will only be giving you 2 ribs per evening to be fair"

Well you are doing something horribly wrong - as I get exponentially better performance on nntp with 2 different ISP's with capped accounts. Pull the other finger please.

All capped product descriptions indicate the following:

Our terms are also very fair and clear with respect to fair usage policies re: shaping and how it is applied. If you feel the website and terms need to be clearer, I'd be happy to take any suggestions on board. Many will attest to the fact that we often make changes based on customer feedback.

Wow.. they don't call this the feedback thread for nothing... thing I like about CW is they constantly refine themselves taking reasonably valid feedback into consideration.

I find it funny how people in today's digital world rage about things they should have been fully aware of if they actually read a product page. How damn daft do you have to be to purchase anything in this world blindly? (General observation)

I will say it again.

Claiming that there is no restrictions - then in a smaller font claiming there is restrictions - is not only dodgy but ****ing unethical.
In Simple terms - "NO SPEED LIMITS IMPOSED" does not equal "P2P traffic shaped to **** except between midnight and 6am."

Point is school fees - your company has proven it can't be trusted - you will lose many potential customers over things like this.
