shaping does not operate on a line speed fraction (like throttling), your particular account is being looked at because it appears that a routing issue might be in play which requires that we establish how the account performs with more than a days data

It's 1AM but this account is still showing every symptom of being shaped. Single threaded downloads don't go faster than 30KB/s.
 
Logins to the news server have been resolved. Will send a mail tonight. Please use the following for access:

If your username is [email protected] your username usenet username will be [email protected] and your password will be your ADSL password.

This was the post. Didn't work for me, so sent another ticket last night.

Sent a request on 11 October, but got no reply to that one.

When I went to sleep at about 12.30 last night I had a 350 meg torrent going at about 50k. It did finish but I'm not sure if speeds picked up.

Checking P2P speeds now and again it's the same story as the whole of yesterday. Basically 0 download speed. Again, I have no issue with this if this is how it's supposed to work, but CW needs to say "Once you hit tier 2, bittorrent protocols will ONLY work between 12 am and 6 am". Coz honestly, if that's the case, I'd rather get a capped account for the same price as what I'm paying now.

Also this is the backup account I was given after my original account just stopped working entirely, and I have no idea if I'd finished my unshaped bandwidth on my original account (stopped getting usage emails a while ago).

my torrents are terrible as well but gonna try a few things before i contact support

i'm a noob when it comes to troubleshooting so i hope you guys have patient support staff :D

@crystalweb my p2p looks shaped on my side and i only signed up on the 19th, i reset my router and checked my torrent settings and even connected my lan cable (i usually just connect using the wifi only).

wanted to contact support via the chat app on your website but it seems my company is blocking that now :(

is there anyway for you to test my account from your side just to confirm everything is 100% ? the thing is I'm not at home to test the line and wont be available till pretty late but don't want to leave this line in the current state as my wife also uses it for work as well.

can i drop you a mail with my username ?

EDIT: i should also add there's no way i used a 100gb as yet so it should still be unshaped correct ?

OK so a few issues were picked up over the weekend and resolved. Below is a summary:

No throughput for some customers: resolution was deployed, and as of 1 November will no longer be a problem
P2P shaping after unshaped is used up: we will relax this, and we have something very cool coming on 1 November for this as well for everyone
Billing queries: we have hired new staff in billing and performed a massive upgrade and migration to the new systems - billing issues 90% resolved and as of 1 November will be a thing of the past

We will be adding some considerable value to existing subscribers as of 1 November. Massive update coming for you all soon - it's good news as usual from us.

If you guys want to shape P2P hard then I'm ok with that, just tell people that tier 2 means no access on P2P protocols between certain hours. For me shaped = reduced downloads, not no downloads.

Haven't had to pop my head in here for some time now, but just wanted to add that I have gone back to my cruel mistress (WoW) and it is solid. 160ms = the best latency I have ever had in WoW. Even when I was downloading the game while playing it last week, it behaved really well.

Now, my only complaint - credit card payments (plays broken record). When!
 
Was downloading some msdn stuffs yesterday and it was super slow on CW. I was preparing to kick the neighbour's cat in frustration but as I was putting on my steel-tipped boots I decided to check my WA backup account ...and it was just as slow :mad: So figured it wasn't a CW issue. Lucky cat...

Just thought I'd share that :D

So erm... CW dudes, make my msdn downloads download faster next time mmmmmK :p
 
Can you give me a list of all your 2mb ADSL data packages that are available (advertized or not)

Unless it is advertised it isn't publicly available for offer yet. We are releasing new products at the end of this month. The website will be updated accordingly.

Sadly, my issues were not in this list. :( Specifically (a) poor streaming/buffering before 6pm, (b) severe shaping between 12am and 6am.

Paul suggests it is just me and that my routing is being looked at, however, I haven't received any email feedback in this regard, or told when or if or how it will be resolved.

I did get my newserver login, thank you. It doesn't perform very well during the day (only slightly better than torrents). Will try it after midnight but I suspect it will also be affected by issue (b) above.

This account is like wading through treacle at the moment. Apart from browsing, everything is slow. Even tiny files of 5mb are restricted to 20KB/s to 30KB/s. Fortunately use of a download manager helps improve the throughput on a few things. When I switch to WebAfrica or (cough cough) Afrihost everything flies again. I guess I could buy more capped data, but really, I think I paid enough for this account for it to work as advertised.

This is precisely what is being announced very soon as well, i.e. part of the big changes as well. It is on the list. :)

To be honest support is the default, well, support. MyBB is a rather inefficient method of support. I can't reconcile your forum name with your account, and there are a plethora of reasons why it's rather tough to pull off. I can personally check for you, but the support staff can also do the same for you. I'm happy to look into it further if you don't come right with them.

P2P is not shaped right now, for example. If you'd like to talk to support and test we'd be happy to do so.
