Actually it spikes to around 900KB/s which is normal for ADSL overhead on a 10Mbps line, especially on international connections.

Thanks - those speeds seem good - but question was for slow NNTP in general - say much lower than that ? What would the most probably root cause be. Have always wondered, especially over SSL.

This is in general, and not specific to our network:

Packet level shaping on SSL is not possible without deep packet inspection, which is currently not legal. So you have to shape on ports or use some other magic to figure out the destination server addresses. The problem is that more and more traffic is moving over SSL these days, like all Google services, including YouTube.

The argument for Deep Packet Inspection is actually a good one from an ISP's perspective, so long as the data is not logged. If it's used by machines to give you the best possible experience then it's being used properly. If it's being used to profile you and log your patterns then it's being used incorrectly and irresponsibly.

This is all my personal opinion on the matter though.

Hi Guys, above might have gotten lost,

Allso see screenshot of network test, does all look well? - http://n1.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/summary/id=43ca253f-9833-e40d73ab-5b9d-4404-828a

Thanks!

Router? Dependent on requirements. The new TP Links are my preferred modem/router combinations these days.
The Netalyzer test I don't have the time to look through right now I'm afraid. Apologies about that. Late for a meeting.
Tweaking the routers? Best to ask on the forums for advice - we don't like to open ourselves up to liability on the risk of bricking or completely cocking up a router. :D

Is anyone following the T20 cricket via SS streaming?
I keep on losing audio sync or it comes through very softly and then suddenly after 10 - 15 minutes full audio.
Bandwidth averages at about 500kbps on 4Mbps.

By not having downloads running at night count towards their free data usage. How about it, CW? (Given that this translates into less usage of the free data allocation, a fair quid pro quo might be to adjust the free data threshold lower, perhaps even as low as 50% of the current threshold, for example.)

I brought up these same concerns, and many others have suggested the same. At the end of the day though, CW would lose insane amounts of money on that.

Think of it as a normal ISP shaped account, but with a bonus 100GB of awesome. Just remember, the shaping only applies to large downloads and streaming / real time services are largely unaffected.

We are specifically testing it here at the moment and watching. It's flawless here - problem is the way they stream is in bursts of data rather than a smooth stream - that's how they deliver content. When it tries to switch to HD it spikes up over 500KB/s and this may be the reason you're having some issues. I don't think this is on our end to be honest if the throughput is fine.

Give me a month and then stay tuned. ;)

Thank you. I assumed it was on SS's side, just wanted to confirm from someone else. It is fine atm for me as well.

BTW, I literally meant 500kbps and not 500kB/s.
I only have a 4Mbps.

That is according to my Wan graph.

The Lan does indicate that my Streaming IP does burst up to 3Mbps.

I think you meant to say:"the shaping only applies to large downloads and P2P / real time services are largely unaffected"

Thanks,

Any good suggestions for OpenWRT routers, what are you (Anybody) using?

Thanks

I see the issue there. Looks like it was the wrong host. You may need to reload your NZBs to try again from scratch.

Doing that now. Bear in mind I don't remember seeing a mail telling me to change hosts. Although I could be mistaken.

Apologies about that then - the very early adopters were on a different host.

What is the new host details? It was not in the email with the new login details. This might be why my nntp is also bad.

Also haven't received any details regarding host changes. Will hop on to support later this evening to get details and test.

Hey, I am overall very happy with my account :P Except for the current "issues", I am still getting done what I need to, so I am easy for now.

But more awesome is never bad.

btw... what speeds are you guys getting from testmy.net using the 100 meg file download?

It takes about 3 hours for the file to download, so... (but I'm pretty sure that'll be fixed with the HTTP issues they're in the process of resolving soon).
