That is correct. Your account will sync to your line speed, which is why the terms of use require you to sign up for the correct account speed for your line speed, for the technical reasons previously mentioned.

This is interesting. So what happens if someone wants a 1Mb connection and account, but Telkom's default line speed on offer is 4Mb? Will future client zones allow people to scale down their connection speed and pay a lower amount as a result?

Also, are there notifications if the line speed gets auto-upgraded to a higher line speed? An example would be the multiple people sitting on grandfathered 4Mb accounts waiting for Telkom to upgrade them to 10Mb. Suddenly the exchange supports 10Mb, their speeds increase and their account gets auto-synced to 10Mb. What notification is there for the client that lets them know they are going to be billed more?

Thank you.

There are no "You click, you pay R175.00/pm for the rest of your life" or you can only cancel on the 15th" because I clicked on the den DNS link?

If so, I'm just going have make a R61k banner and take your arses to court.
:D

You have now signed your first and second borns over to Crystal Web. :D

No, nothing like that. :p

The account will auto-upgrade to the line speed. We don't support throttling in the business (there is no throttling mechanism) and for the sake of new products allowing concurrency across accounts at full line speed this mechanism exists.

As for auto upgrades - Telkom don't do auto-upgrades as in the way you mentioned. If the exchange supports 10Mbps, you have to request that you wish to upgrade to 10Mbps.

I was wondering how do I log into the customer portal? I put in my email address and my ADSL account password and it doesn't work.

Hop on chat and someone will activate the login for you.

Was still having some twich issues, but applying the below "hack" managed to fix it for me.
maybe consider adding a FAQ on the first post for existing issues?
Twitch for some customers: Fix coming in to resolve these issues - happening this month. Until then, pumping the stream into VLC using http://livestreamer.readthedocs.org/en/latest/ with HLS and HDS will resolve it for now.

Gents my modem/router seems like it's going to konk out soon. The on/off loadshedding seems to have it on it's last legs. Can you guys recommend a good Wifi modem/router ...? I have 4 ports currently but I think I could probably do with a few more...

TP-Link W8980 is my preferred recommendation for a home modem/router all-in-one with good performance and reliability although it is limited to 4 gigabit ports. Gigabit LAN switches are pretty cheap these days if you need more.

Am I missing something here...?

Uniterm R1299 ExVat
TakeAlot R 975

Takealot has some seriously good prices. They've got so many loss leaders (seem to recall reading somewhere that they've had a cash injection), that it's the first place I check out for toys and electronics.

Delivery will be free for the router (price-based), but good to remember for future orders that all orders via their mobile app are delivered free of charge. Ordered some deluxe Christmas crackers (ja, ja) on Tuesday and they arrived at my house in Durban Thursday morning. Effortless.

Was also eyeing the W8980 myself, then a mate gave me a WRT54GL, so I'm playing with that in the meantime. Once CW has the RB750's sorted, I'll be jumping on that bus.

Do you need dual band?

Let me just clarify that I am a bit of a noob when it comes to "networking" in any guise or form. That said we do stream a lot in our household although devices(Rokus) are mostly via network cables. We also connect cellphones and tablets via wifi and they are sometimes used at the same time. I don't know if this is where "dual band" has it's advantages but I don't mind forking out a little more for something that may be a bit more "future Proof". Suggestions...?
