I think the fact that I'm not getting line speed between 00:00 - 07:00 anymore is going to be a deal breaker for me.
My best average speed achieved on the news server last night(01:00 - 07:00) was 322kB/s(one instance) and worst was 97KB/s(one instance). The rest varied in the low 200's
All in all an average 230.5KB/s average.

Seeing that day times will probably worse and that we are guaranteed that we will at no stage see line speed, I don't see the value in this offer atm.

I tried to download a PSN game yesterday. 770MB = 3 hours.

I understand that economics come in to play, but sorry, but that kite is not going to fly.

Don't you have the option to switch to Cybersmart at night?

This is part and parcel of what I spotted last night and what the guys are working on changing now. Remember we deployed this in record time, so occasionally we either spot something we overlooked or got wrong and have to make the changes to resolve it. I picked up on it last night in testing and found the problem, so have sent off the details of the required changes to the necessary teams to implement. Not a huge change needed, and having direct control now means we can make these changes as close to on-the-fly as one can get.

What account speed do you have BTW?

Can we? Really not happy with the way NNTP is performing. I get shaping but when it is shaped to zero for hours it is not acceptable.

We actually don't have a system that could do this, so I've sent it off to see why yours specifically ended up with no throughput. I have a suspicion about what it may be, but I need to try to replicate it under the same conditions. Because we can't log account specific application usage data (it's illegal) we have to after-the-fact try to see when and where it happened, under what conditions, and try to replicate it so we can see why it happened and how to fix it.

But, I know what we're looking for there which makes it easier. Quite sure this is something we can fix fairly easily as well. I had a chat with the guys about it when they reported it to me and I did see something that didn't quite seem right (which may have been my doing in fact). Going to test a change today when we test the midnight torrent changes.

With regards to Cybersmart - we will continue the development of the dual backbone network, but not over Cybersmart's backbone for various reasons.

I understand. Like I said yesterday, I will give it two weeks and then see how things are progressing.

I'm on very solid 4Mbps line.

I also know that Telkom had some problems for the guys routing via Cape Town, which I do, but I 'm not going to pay for a service that gives me 97KB/s 01:15 in the morning or take 3 hours to download 770MB on PSN via Http.
I understand that you guys still need to iron out the Network and I hope that goes smoothly, although from my experience as an ADSL user, those changes rarely goes smoothly. Seems like a very complex process.

On the hand, there are times that the Network does run well and I have none of the issues I had on the previous backbone.
Maybe I got a bit spoiled over the months and especially the last couple of weeks with the unshaped experience and is struggling to adapt to the shaping.

Yes, we did run everyone as unshaped for many months. But like I said, we'll try to push some changes out today still as I'm quite sure I know what's needed to sort that out.

Hi guys.

Has the downloads improved since early December. Especially talking about game update downloads for likes of swtor.

I left cw because of the poor performance concerning that but seriously considering coming back as webafrica business capped is just unreliable when it comes to gaming performance.

Stefan, if SWTOR had the same issue I had with STO (patching never got decent speed, ingame patching suffered the same, higher-than-normal latency), then the new rollout should be most pleasing to you. I recall CW mentioning they had created some test accounts... perhaps ask them to trial it now, and judge for yourself? I would be confident though :)

I'm also just reporting in to say all is still well on my side. I hope Gladys has been spared the fizzy alcohol :p

In game was always good it was just patching being terrible, 100 -300kbps while going at over 1mb on the mweb backup account. I will talk to Shaun and see if I can get a test account.

Thx for the feedback.

I noticed the issue with torrents last night. I know how to fix it. Will hopefully have that in today some time.

Schweet, thanks and I hope the fix works. I have no problem with shaping P2P during hours but after 00:00 I expect my torrents to run helmet :p

Lastly, if we change to packages with CW do our discounts still apply?
I'm considering going capped when you guys offer it. I hope that you offer capped ala Web Africa with some free midnight data. I know this might not work for everyone but I schedule 90% of my downloads to between 00:00 and 06:00 so it works for me.

Just reporting in that NNTP and torrents were completely dead for me last night and this morning before I went to work.

Can't connect after latest load shedding cycle. I have power cycled the router and checked the settings in the router but everything is fine. Any other ideas?
