People seem to forget that they don't offer support over weekends after 5pm. That's just how it is. Not on their site, and certainly not on a forum.

If you are having issues run tests, WinMTRs and capture evidence to log support tickets with come Monday morning. Don't just nag and moan. Jeez.

Hi Gents,

Listen this last week my performance on my 2Mbps Uncapped Premium account has taken a horrible hit. So we did some troubleshooting and saw that my exchange my acting up and I requested a port reset to see if that helped. It did, the response times, although still high, did go down and streaming was fixed, for a night.

I then got a test account, because I know it has a very high priority, so I can troubleshoot. Right so tonight, my premium account can't can't get past 288p and the test goes to 480p. Speedtest on mybroadband show the same, premium comes back at around 1Mbps while the test comes back at around 1,75Mbps. Now remember this is all withing the smae 15min period, you cannot tell me that it is just the exchange because if so why would change in performance be so predictable and measurable (speedtest and real world). Currently the only traffic that seems the same on both account is http.

The other strange thing I noticed on the premium account is I started running tracert through the week to bbc.co.uk and crystalweb.co.za. I noticed that to your website I got response of around 300ms while BBC gave me around 180ms. If anything that should be reversed?

To me this means either my premium account has the wrong profile set, the premium account are now being shaped more because of the influx of customers or there is a problem on IS side perhaps with routing or something (not to sure about this). PLease CW your customer base is looking for answers. I really don't want to have to move but it seems like if this is going to be the trend going forward I might need to go with a large cap from WA as much as I hate them.

Begging for answers.....

Interesting stuff here, Would like to see what CW have to say about it.

Although, Getting a large home capped account from webafrica would not benefit you at all and you would experience the same issues, They are having IPC issues at the moment as IS are waiting for the free telkom IPC upgrades to take place.

Latency to Cape Town is horrific.

Johannesburg is even more fun.

People should really run WinMTRs. For at least 50 packets to see what is going on in a route.

Makes troubleshooting SO much easier.

Well well.. what do you know.. after making my post, incredible to see how many people are experiencing the same problem.. it's sad that i've just managed to hop onto this ISP when everything has gone pear shaped.. Pity that you need to give 1month cancellation as you're stuck for another month, paying for something that doesn't work? Hopefully crystal web has enough business sense to compensate for this horrific performance and service.

Once again last night between 12am-6am i watched my torrents go from a dismal 10kb/s to 40kb/s back to 20kb/s.. down to 8kb/s.. it's really really a laughing stock

So today i decided ..well let me test my torrents during the day and see how they do and to my surprise i was receiving decent speeds.. So somewhere somehow seems like crystalweb has their shaping protocols extremely messed up as i swear between 12 and 6 they might as well shut down the service its that slow..

There is no month notice that I am aware of, unless something changed? If you give notice before the 19th, you are gone by the end of the month.

However, this is the first time I've seen this level of performance since I joined CW and I've been with them from almost the start.

Obviously something is not right, but there can be many reasons for it.
Give them a chance to give feedback tomorrow.

Yea, Your on Home Uncapped Basic, What do you expect? Pay for premium or don't expect the same experience as everyone else.

Section D of the Relationship Agreement http://crystalweb.co.za/relationshipagreement.php

1.Subject to this section, and any term contract you may enter into with Crystal Web, it is agreed that you may cancel any or all of your services before the 19th of the month such that the service will be terminated from the last day of the month. Any cancellation notice received between the 19th day of the month and the last day of the month will be regarded as a cancellation effective on the last day of the following month.

Thanks slvr, good to know.. wasnt aware of this

As for ghostR, get lost.. it has nothing to do with home uncapped basic or premium.. Go read the site and you will clearly see that the 12:00-6am slot is reserved for downloading, uncapped, unshaped.. Home basic im aware that during business hours performance might suffer but this does not bother me as i use my internet mostly at night and to download.. So if you don't have anything better to say shut your mouth rather

"Basic uncapped is offered as a shaped service. The service is typically unshaped as standard, however the more peak time usage that passes through the account, the heavier the shaping that will be applied"

"Cystal Web Basic Uncapped is a fantastic internet account for entry level ADSL home users. With speeds up to 40Mbps, it also offers a low entry point for users wishing to upgrade their speeds substantially without having to fork out thousands of Rands per month. Shaping is applied to download protocols in peak hours, and unshaped thereafter. Select your speed below."

"Don't worry about your downloads being shaped. Just let them fire off after hours and wake up to a completed queue each day."

Can you not read or do you need a pair of specs to go with your stupidity? Can you not see that after hours it is "unshaped" ? I've quoted above from the site, so before trying to act all clever here, get your facts straight first before trying to argue

Anyway moving on from people bickering amongst themselves. I really really love CW and the guys who started it.

Hopefully we will receive some feedback tomorrow. My account is quite intermittent.

One moment fantastic and next Meh. Streaming ntv.mx, kodi plugins, are most important in my household especially with the wife.

Even so, It is a Uncapped Basic account, The lowest priced accounts that they offer. One can't really expect much from it anyway. Obviously you do, so ayyy, Good luck to you.

anyone in cape town experiencing netflix streaming issues? Normally hit HD but cant get above 480 tonight. On a 10mb capped home account

No one ever said i expected the best of the best. But 20kb/s on a 4mb uncapped option is hardly anything to smile about.. Even if it went at half the speed i could understand, but this is extreme.

@ converse

I dont know the fine details but as far as i know the basic un capped uses star rating system I maybe wrong. Also do anybody know if that star rating system counts for after hours downloads could that maybe be the problem to the shaping on these accounts ?
