We will be offering services on Telkom's FTTH offering. The announcement on exact products will come as soon as we have exact calculations done. In general though Telkom's FTTH has the advantage of being as open access as their DSL approach, the disadvantage is that it is geared in a DSL-on-steriods model which has cost implications.

and of course, Telkom's FTTH would be routed over the same IPC used for DSL.

Yeah.

R1500x100= R150 000 of peak IPC on a single client (rough excl Int breakout)

but since Telkom FTTH is around my area I doubt any other ISP will invest in FTTH here for the foreseeable future so I might as well.

A few weeks ago you guys mentioned some changes taking place to the home capped accounts.

Have those changes taken place? If so what we're they?

Paul try and let me know Monday if you guys can, emailed every provider regarding the naked line and hope to place the order this coming week.

How lucky is it that your house didn't burn down as well today, eh? Bloody tragic for those people. :(

A fire burned down a home in JBay, near to where Paul lives, I think. The people living there run a fish and chips restaurant down by the beach and they practically lost everything today. Very sad, since they're well-known in the community.

I am dogsitting Buddy and am completely buggered from a day of running and smog.

Really really awful fire and our unfortunate fire department are suffering as a result of a severe lack of political responsibility and will. There was a fire during the week at an old age home and the trucks had to move off to St Francis again.

Also sent a message on our internal comms to support staff saying that I had to dash to literally assist in putting out fires.

Paul, as you are located in Jbay do you have any inside info on any planned ADSL upgrades in the surrounding areas?

My parents have a 2Mbit line running off the Linton Grange BB 2 exchange. Their line stats are very good but the congestion is terrible lately and getting worse by the day to the point where the line is practically useless in the evenings.

I'm paying for their connection so I'm wondering if I should rather cut my losses and move them back over to 3G.

Here in Cape Town, along the West Coast, I'm still having issues with my Youtube streaming through the PS3.

Quality constsntly fluctuates between 1080p and what looks like 144p. Already had tech take a look but the issue persists.

Is this a known issue in Cape Town?

I'll have a double check whether there is anything more on the horizon since I last checked but the basic understanding is that we (Jbay and immediate surrounds)

Linton Grange though should be on track for being put to at least a proper 4 or 10 Mbps as it is PE. I will prod around to find out

Of course people in this part of the world should clamour for FIBRE :D

- then you can get it all in the morning

They are in Paradise Beach though. It shows they are connected to Linton Grange but don't know how everything is connected.

Not sure what is meant by Linton Grange BB 2 but I'm running 10mbps from Linton Grange ELTG without hassles, modem stats below:
