WWDC streaming fine without issues at the moment. Well the pre-stream while all the nerds are getting their 4 minutes of fame on TV.

Was fine for the first hour on my AppleTV then at 8pm on the dot it started buffering like a mofo.

Now unwatchable.

Someone flicked the kill bandwidth switch somewhere.

I'm in Durban. Streamed the whole thing without issue.

Rather wish there were issues, it was beyond ****. Sis.

Downloads on CW running on less than 50% line speed at 23:00.... WTF?

Account has been pretty much flawless for the last 2 weeks, 4mb home premium , im in Jhb though.

And wow. It didn't take long for the wheels to fall off of this one....

Good morning

I would like to throw my thoughts out on this IPC capacity issue and sorry if I sound like a moaner but I would love to understand how IPC capacity always has an issue at the Cape Town area?

Maybe someone can explain to me as it seems whatever Afrihost still has not been able to fix has now passed over to Crystal Web which I thought would never happen.

I always thought Afrihost had this issue due to compromising their network for lower prices to the public, but obviously with Crystal Web I paid a lot more and expected this never to be an issue.

Please someone shed light on this for me, I am starting to get very frustrated with this issue.

I must mention that the one month that I used Crystal Web and they did not have IPC issues it was by far the best experience I had but if this IPC issue starts popping up at an ISP which I pay more money to avoid latency and buffering issues it becomes a big problem.

From what I've read in this thread the Cape Town user base has strange timings apparently.

The usage models which seem to work for both Durban and JHB do not seem to work all that well in CT.

This IPC issue is also on their upstream provider. It is not a case of CW having access to more IPC and not taking it. It's their upstream provider not having more capacity to give. The net effect for the us users are the same however.

It would be a different thing altogether if they had access to, but did not make use of, additional IPC.

As it stands my experience mirrors yours klipdrifter. My first two months with CW was absolute bliss. This Cape Town IPC rubbish however is causing me to have absolutely horrible streaming experiences in the evening.

I'd also like to get some clarity on the streaming and account priority from the CW guys.

It is my understanding that streaming that should be the highest priority across all accounts equally - no matter the time of day. However my tests and user experience dictates otherwise.

I use a low volume home capped account because I just don't consume a lot of data. If that means my streaming takes a back seat to someone paying for an uncapped premium account in the evening - irrespective of total usage - then I'd like to know as it will influence my staying with CW going forward.

With you 100% there - would also really like to know if this is going to be a regular thing and if not, why not. Premium price but for the same connection quality as AH is not what I signed up for. Having said that, though - yes, before the IPC issue started the connection quality was absolutely amazing. But we do need official word from CW as to why this keeps happening in the Cape, and some kind of assurances for the future.

I'm not throwing my toys, I'm not making threats of leaving or whatever. But I do want to know what I'm going to get for my money. I don't think that's an unfair expectation.

@Paul - still being sent invoices and repeated late payment warnings for the wrong account type and amount. You did say this would be sorted out yesterday.

As I understand it - and I'm open to correction - a hell of a lot more regions in SA get routed through the Cape Town IPC than through the other two in JHB and DBN. Then, at least in AH's case, a lack of capacity planning and ridiculously slow turnaround times from Telkom when upgrading IPC capacity result in many months of terrible experience for users.

What I can't understand is how a huge provider like IS can fail so badly at capacity planning, how they don't have the clout to hurry Telkom up in deploying additional capacity, and how ISPs never feel they owe it to the users experiencing the issues (especially since they've acknowledged the issues) to discount their accounts or offer them some kind of incentives to stay on while the issues are being addressed.

Personally, if I were a completely new user to CW, I doubt I'd still be here. I tested a capped account a long time ago, and have followed this thread for a long while. But seeing as I signed up on the 1st, if I didn't have this background, never knew this thread existed and this IPC issue was causing this sub standard performance, I'd have already cancelled.

As it is, these delays don't look promising, and I'm glad this is happening at the beginning of the month before the 19th, because I have a feeling (again, I'd love to be proved wrong) we're going to hear about another delay at the end of this week. (flashbacks to Afrihost)

Provisioning IPC is not only reliant on Telkom... the other company also has to create capacity for the additional IPC. So unless told differently, it is both parties causing the delay.
