Official Motorola RAZR thread (Android version)

Gratz oc! :)

Nice, ne? I am permanently putting mine in eye shot. Just to sneak a look at it every now and then... :D

It is brilliant. Loving it. I am just so scared I loose my hold on the phone cause it is so thin and then drop it. I WOULD DIE!!!!!

Just a quick question though....on my Defy, I had the option to set the phone to disable its data connection from 10 @ night. I cant seem to find this feature in Gingerbread? Was it removed?

Smart actions should allow you to do this?

Also btw, I nailed my phone onto a tiled floor the other day, right on the corner - my heart stopped! Picked it up, not even a scratch!

AFAIK, the Atrix was marketed as a dock-able phone from the start. I think that is why they included the dock. But considering the price of the dock, motorola should have included it from the start for the RAZR.

Well I am looking into the HD dock, its not all for a loss. It might still be able to do what I want. And I think most people buying the phone would not want to pay the extra $50 for something they would never use.

I prefer it to be separate so not to load the cost of the initial phone, but the lack of availability in SA is a problem. If only I knew someone that had both. I have asked on another forum for people to check if its possible to run https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zpwebsites.ubuntuinstall on a monitor via the dock.

Will update as soon as I find something concrete.

Ah cool. I added the rule. Hope I did it right. :-) I just like it cause it can do wonders for battery I think...although I have to say so far I am very happy with battery life.

If I had to see my phone hitting a tile floor I would go catatonic!

I dropped the one that had the OBF just before taking it back...

My heart stopped for a second but then realized that IDC... ;)

Two things:

1. Is it my imagination or does this phone have a amazing battery life or what? Been whatsapping a lot today and still have 70% left on last nights charge.
2. I think I have better signal with the RAZR...maybe cause it has a longer antenna built built in seeing that it is so big?

Oh and LOVING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hehe

I'm still wondering about my battery life - if i run it without Smart Actions, it's awful. At the moment I run it on Smart Actions so that at work it switches to wifi and disables data completely, then at any other time it runs on 2g only, with wifi on, just not connected.

@ocleroux - how have you got yours setup?

Well...I have only set it up to disable data connection from 22:00 till 07:00. Tonight will be the first time it will run so will see. It is busy downloading software update via wifi and that is obviously using a bit of my battery now. It must be said that I dont talk a lot on my phone...mosty whatsap :-) I just thought with the screen so big etc...it was gonna chow the battery...but I am very impressed with it.

Currently due for an upgrade. Got the htc desire at the moment, i know this phone is thinner but am worried that it is much bigger? Is it worth upgrading or wait for the sgs3

SGS3 would probably be the same size if the SGS2 is anything to go by - also as it's not offically announced yet, no timeframe of how long you'll have to wait...

I am not getting SMS's... I used to but now all of a sudden nothing. Weird. Going to see my SP today to find out what's happening.

I would say go for the RAZR. Compared to the RAZR...the Samsung is fugly! :-) I am also convinced that the buld quality of the RAZR is unmatched. :-)

I was in an MTN shop the other day and picked up an SGS2 - the Razr is sliiightly longer, but feels better in my hand - also re build quality - the body is so much more solid and feels less plasticcy

On a not-unrelated note, I prefer the MotoBlur UI to the TouchWiz that Samsungs come with, the Samsung effect seems a little toylike/plastic even on the interface. Now I know that obviously rooting & romming/theming an Android device gets away from this, but the default release package makes an impression too

but is the sgs2 camera much better? From the reviews i have read it is better which is a bit of a deal breaker. Think i will wait to see what quad core phones get released next week at Mobile World Congress

I can't comment from experience, having not used an SGS2's camera, but as I mentioned earlier, I'm very happy with my Razr's cam, and the 1080P video is amazing! I have read reviews that the Samsung's camera is better, but I'm not sure by what margin.

For me it's nice to have a good camera but I don't rely on it so I'm chuffed with what I've got now :)
