OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

they do not state it outright on their site, Without you having to troll through their T's and C's.

This is obviously a tactic to deceive customers as they state "No contracts, No fuss! OpenWeb offers you Month to Month access." So people would naturally believe they could cancel in the same month, they do not state that you have to give a months notice in amonst their marketing shpeel.

Thank you snail fair is fair will see if i can put there after hours to good use and test some more hope is doesnt disconnect again next month

That was my thoughts exactly when I read it

When OW works well, the service is good and I have appreciated the speeds. The problem is that the service intermittently just does not work and that seems to be for much of the week and times on the weekend. Services I have been intermittently disconnected from are dropbox, smtp, https: and even whatsapp. I've had to cancel now. There seems to have been effort to resolve, but in my experience as a 'customer experience' practitioner, the important question to ask is 'if the customer truly was telling the truth and having a problem, what would I conceivably need to fix to improve that?'

Guys, are any of you having the issue that I am? This problem comes and goes but my account will refuse to send/receive any data even though it's still connected?

I'm getting timed out to any non-html traffic. Also, youtube, twitch, gaming all non-functional.

So I tried out OW (i know...)

Here are some real-life network stats just for fun.

Ping to google (Note the packet loss):

Youtube.com: inaccessible
Twitch.tv: inaccessible

In the meantime, I'm using other ISPs' free capped offerings to do gaming and stuff. But hey, at least I can torrent at night, right?
What am I even paying them for? I can use Facebook and Reddit through the day. Back to MWeb I go.

I believe this is the same issue I reported on more than once - and other people have documented in this and related threads about Openweb.

Their pipe becomes so congested that the internet becomes useless for a period. Worst is from after 7 in the morning to around noon (as I and others have reported), but other times can be as bad.

The issues seems unrelated to prior usage, because one day I connected my router after 7am (after a gap of a few days) and immediately had the same problem.

No complaints from my side.
I'm on a 4meg Telkom line, on their 50 Gig capped home account.
Based in Limpopo, Vhembe district, if that matters.

Yeah I think that is exactly what is happening because no matter the usage the speeds remain the same. They have their agreement with IS that they can resell x amount of bandwidth and obviously oversells that bandwidth by a very big margin meaning you only get decent speeds between 00:00 and 7am.

You have a capped account. Capped accounts sold by Openweb are all unshaped so you should not be getting any speed issues.

I'm also on a capped account. I spoke to a senior technician and he says he sees errors on my line so it's either my modem or my line.

Edit: he said that my error log said i was losing sync but I'm pretty sure that's just me restarting my modem. My line sync light is solid wherever this happens.

Ok well this is what you need to do. Try using accounts with another ISP to see if the problem persist. Here are some ISP's that offer 1GB free data.
https://www.webafrica.co.za/home/adsl/
https://www.axxess.co.za/adsl
http://gridhost.co.za/affordable-internet
https://www.afrihost.com/site/product/adsl_capped?src=website_nav

Try these accounts and if they work fine then it might be your account. If they perform badly too then it might be your line

It does sound like a line issue or something wrong with your account. I have used Openweb capped accounts before and they are one of the best.
