Mine is running awesomely at 220 kilobytes/sec on my 2Mb line :) I love Openweb :D (Eastern Cape)

Hulu was better last night. I just put it on Auto and the quality stayed good throughout. Torrents also ran full speed.

Interestingly, Speedtest showed less than quarter international download speed.

Depends on your download, if you were d/l The walking dead then it will be slow because ppl want to watch immediately after download, they were 77 seeds and 12500 leachers and that figure stayed constant till 7am this morning.

Anyone having issues (Gmail etc) on OpenWeb ?

I am struggling to access anything Gmail related on my OW account but on my Vodacom Dongle, it's flying.

I too am having problems with Gmail, I am also struggling to download my SWTOR patch.

Edit: everything is running fine on mweb, there seems to be a problem with openweb. I am a little disappointed as I just bought the gamers king bundle, when I tried out the trial and everything was working great, now that I have bought the actual product the performance is terrible.

I recently automated my torrents to download from RSS feeds the moment they're released. This means that the vast majority of my downloads are triggered at around 2am and are nearly always completed by the time I wake up. They're even sent to the correct network drives, into the correct folders, and my media centres auto-update. Apart from this being awesome, it also means that my downloads are triggered in off-peak times, so I get full line speed, and have no trouble with shaping http during the day because of torrents downloading.

Since then, I've had no complaints with day-time browsing speeds, YouTube, music streaming etc. All of the minor issues I was experiencing have been negated. Seems torrents really were messing with my speeds.

What remains an issue is SuperSport on the weekends but I have come to the conclusion that this is SuperSport's issue.

Bottom line - if you haven't automated your downloads, I'd suggest you do so. Not only are you pretty much guaranteed full line speed, but you get your shows quicker, requires no manual input on your part, shifts usage to off-peak and in the long-run will be good for the ISP and you. Unlike despicable ISPs like MWEB, Openweb truly do act in the best interests of their customers and I have no doubt will pass on savings in this respect to their customers...

@mrBeep,

Gotta say I have always been impressed with the support from Openweb, but having a problem today,

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3034964726

thats on a 10mb Gamers king account.

Contacted your support line and spoke to a lady who sounded like she had no idea of what is going on and just took my details and told me they would test the line, this doesn't help as my line is with Telkom.

used my FNB account and everything seems fine so it appears to only be on the openweb account, I have also turned everything off for 10 minutes and on again with no luck.

...Okay I got a call from a technician to get my details (which I had already given) and got told they would call me back after testing (which they said would be done on the last call)

...Line is no maxing at 5mbps but no feedback from Openweb and their support line is closed. :erm:

This is mine, you cant tell me they are not purposely doing this to the customers.
I freaking hate IS, I know now why I left them in the first place years ago.

This is on the 10mb Gamers.

Sickbeard TPB Edition (Made for torrent users + custom RSS feed support + it gets updated every week) + uTorrent = So much win :D

2Mbit Gold Leon/something/who knows. Twitch unwatchable, stutters on medium and low.

Connect to FNB or Telkom Internet and it works on high without issue.

At my wits' end. This is not what the trial account was like.

*edit*

It's working now with OW on high. Crossing fingers.

Hi Friends,

I can assure you that IS nor OpenWeb intentionally sit and push a big red button that states 'irritate your customers now'.

There was a dip this afternoon on the CT IPC it seems. We are investigating.

All seems back to normal now though.

With respect, I disagree, not you but IS.
They are doing something and every day at around 5pm its back on.
I can assure you, without fail when that clock hits around 5 or 5:30, the floodgates open again

We know that the floodgates open at around 17:00 to 18:00 as this is when traffic volumes literally halve.

The shaper reacts and shares the capacity with Home users at this stage.

This is not a secret. We are actually quite proud that we can offer mostly unshaped evening access (network dependent )

Would you prefer it to be more balanced like some ISP's? Deploy a 24 / 7 shaping regime with the shaping balanced over the day? At the end of the day, this method would probably allow folks to get less bandwidth than with the current system. But we are always open to suggestions.

Unfortunately due to the cost of the IPC we cannot offer more speed during peak. It is just not possible at the current ADSL uncapped consumer price point.
