Also in Durban - difference being I am not on the trial account .... should answer some questions.....;)

lol damn... ok so I was hoping it was just a location issue with speed ouch... hmm. MrBeep... any clarification on this? Trial accounts different to the real deal? Need to confirm as I don't want to jump from a current sinking ship to another sinking ship...

The network is busy again today. We expect this to continue for the rest of the week.

Unfortunately, folks are trying to download as much as possible in as little time as possible.

Luckily there is an unshaped evening ahead from 20:00

This requires attention, as capped accounts take top priority.

We have not had any similar reports of this.

I must admit, my capped account has not been running at full line speed since yesterday. Running at about half line speed. Will run more tests but it doesn't look like exchange congestion...

It seems as if though we should start balancing traffic more between evening and peak.

We open up the flood gates in the evenings as much as we can. However, during peak, we shape as the network gets very busy.

We will consider balancing the shaping out more - perhaps offering less unshaped access after hours, and more bandwidth during office hours.

We will look into this possibility.

Sorry friends, this is my fault. I failed to introduce cableguy.

He will be helping out on the forums from time to time as our newest online team member.

Don't worry, I will be around as much as ever! I just need a little help. You are a tough crowd :)

from time to time... i guess not at this time.

Mr. Beep, where are you? (growls)

rite here:

Hi Matthew

Thank you for your mail.

I am currently connected to your account sending you this mail.

I have tried browsing a few different sites and can confirm they are loading fine

Kind Regards

but he cant even take a moment to come talk to us friends. dont u all find it ironic that its always daytime hes disappeared, night time is no prob when there arent any probs .. :D

and btw, mrbeep always talks about how different area and IPC affect everyone differently. so i wonder where Matthew/Grizz above is located for Keoma to simply write his complaint off so easily...

edit... ok like 5 hours later he shows up with more vague replies. he must realise there will come a time when us friends wont buy the vague excuses any more....

The shaper is acting insane actually, I would look into IT not clients. I've been able to reach 100kBs on TORRENTS today when I can't even get 1kBs on Youtube or Facebook. These are of course not simultaneously tested for the sake of logic.

I am still waiting for your PM to confirm whether you are an OpenWeb client, or a troll.

When can I expect to receive the PM?

from time to time... i guess not at this time.

It seems to be luck of the draw. I was with OW for almost a year, and in that time I was probably on 15 different accounts. One stops working, they reset port, it gets even worse, I get a new account, then that's ok for a while, repeat.

Support are typically unable to reproduce the issue but if you take the right tack with them you can usually talk them into giving you a new account to try.

I've never been able to establish just what it is that goes bad. But it's typically isolated as you'll find most people on this forum aren't experiencing the same thing (it's not usually as widespread as this week).

I finally got sick of it and cancelled in December, but with the >30 day notice period that means I'm still paying til the end of January. I was going to wait it out but this week was the last straw and I cut my losses. This after support was once again unable to reproduce the issue.

I'm with Telkom Internet now. They have a more restrictive AUP but I don't download THAT much so it makes sense for me. TI are also having issues this week with latency (which means online gaming is out for now) but according to other posters it's a blip. Besides, browsing is much better than on my OW gamers king account (which incidentally was usually ok for gaming, even when browsing was completely broken) and I can even use Youtube during the day, so overall it's a win.

Good luck.

Kindly PM me your username so that I can take a look.

It should not do this.

What would mixing the available bandwidth possibly accomplish? Surely you know that ISPS DO NOT buy 100GB(etc) of data Mr Beep. You buy bandwidth in line speed, available at all times. Shaping heavier in the evenings will just waste that bandwidth, it's the shaping during the daytime that is ludicrous right now if this is even remotely intentional.

If you are experiencing a problem, kindly email support@openweb.co.za so that it can be addressed.

I did ---- Problem is, I cant get to my mail box with the line issues and believe me I tried all afternoon and did get back to you EVENTUALLY ...... and that 1Gig from AH doesn't go far.

This request is like asking a broke person to PAY to get a loan .... Wouldn't it be easier to give the home user more bandwidth and slow up business a little? Seems to me the sharing is 95% business 5% everyone else?? Just asking because right now I am as frustrated as hell - as are a number of people.

Don't take my irate tone the wrong way I hope, we are all feeling a bit stressed here. As for that I don't need to worry about PMing, the account name is the same as this username. Basjohn[aaaaaaaaaat]gmail.com. HOWEVER, I sincerely doubt it is client side, please see the numerous complaints in this thread for evidence of that.

This requires attention, as capped accounts take top priority.

We have not had any similar reports of this.

I have no access to my emails nor my UserCP at the moment, so will have to resort to this thread to relay information:

Here is my speedtest after rebooting the router (4Mb but syncing at 2432kbps):

Local:
2447986033.png

International:
2447997528.png

Here is the tracert indicating no exchange issues:

Openweb_tracert_7_Jan_2014.png

My line stats show that I am syncing at 2432kbps which is understandable considering my distance to the exchange, and the line stats are fine. Something appears to be up...

EDIT: pings are also fine...

There are ways this can be done.

We always look at all the options and suggestions.
