I am still waiting for your PM to confirm whether you are an OpenWeb client, or a troll.

When can I expect to receive the PM?

never. i am a client.

there just been what, about 10 pages of complaints since yesterday?

let me try ask this differently. why the **** is during hours usage always so bad? on gold level accs? what are people paying for if there is no performance diff between gold and silver and gamers and titan and everyday and and and ......

and then come evening, the tap opens for everyone.

where is this superior gold service?

hey??

I would need access to your ADSL username. Can you please Pm this to me so that I can connect to your account

I have no access to my emails nor my UserCP at the moment, so will have to resort to this thread to relay information:

Here is my speedtest after rebooting the router:

2447986033.png

Here is the tracert indicating no exchange issues:

Openweb_tracert_7_Jan_2014.png

My line stats show that I am syncing at 2434kbps which is understandable considering my distance to the exchange, and the line stats are fine. Something appears to be up...

As explained yesterday, these complaints need to be taken on a case by case basis.

On this thread 99% of what you see is the bad. The good is not advertised here, and people do not post when they are happy.

If we pick up a trend we re-act on it very quickly. If there is no trend, we request individual tickets so that each case can be looked into.

ADSL is not a "push one button and all works fine" service. It is more complicated than that.

never. i am a client.

Hmmmm... now the OpenWeb account is usable again.

Completely and utterly unusable from 11AM until 5PM again today, just like yesterday.
If this is repeated during the rest of this week, I will just give-up.

I can understand shaping torrents etc from 8-5, but to kill browsing even and email completely is beyond acceptable.

/sigh

/deep breath

/another sigh

Hi MrBEEP

Should I do this now or tomorrow if the symptoms repeat themselves again, as they had done yesterday and today ?

Seems a bit futile doing this when it is working ?

As I have stated before, I have been on this Gold account for more than 3 years with only 1 backbone change during this time.
It has just worked all this time. Wonderfully.
The shaping has been tolerable in the past but perhaps getting a tad more aggressive towards the final months of last year.
Yesterday and today this account has been unusable. Literally unusable.
It all slows down until around 11AM then becomes useless until 5PM-ish.

Is a backbone change an option ?

It seems that many OW users had slow browsing today. My email seemed to work fine, this goes through Serv Hosting in Jhb and I generally found South African websites ok - not blazingly fast but quite useable

But from about 11h00 to 17h00 overseas sites just do not load. The message from Chrome is "Site sent no data" after a few mins. 4 of my friends to whom I recommended OW called me and said they were having identical problems. 2 live in Cape Town and 2 live in Montagu, so it seems it was the whole region

Is there a succinct explanation for this anomoly please?

This probably the first time that I've seen the general consensus on openweb being negative in these threads. Been with openweb for 2 years and it's been nothing but stellar all-round except for the past 2 days. Hoping it's just a hiccup.

.

Absolute codswallop ..... The reason I came to OW was the ''good'' comments on this forum. And if one were to look at my comments, I have posted more ''good'' than bad when it comes to OW. Hell, I have even advocated that people move over to OW from their current ISP.

Now I have an issue - rather get defensive - sort it out. This holds true for virtually everyone who posted today.

Do it as soon as the problems start.

It would assist us in getting to the root cause

Just another observation, one that Mr. Beep has mentioned earlier, as its the new year and people are coming back, there is more demand on the network for updates, browsing from work PC/kids still on holiday bored etc. so I'm sure there is certainly some of that contributing at the current time. It is insane how much bandwidth facebook and all that crap takes up let along productive time that gets lost. Perhaps everyone uploading their holiday pics to their timelines between work haha.

MrBeep, this is not the way to fix it.
I have been telling you, and others about this since last year.
Why is it so difficult to look at all the complaints here and go to IS and demand they stop throttling / shaping the hell out of us?
This is without doubt whats happening.

what do you mean root cause? do you mean providing a new acc with different routing? if i am wrong then pls correct me.

lets be very honest here, youve said this sort of thing for ages, but we still have major daytime problems!

email to openweb > port reset / new acc > temprary satisfaction > acc fails again / acc fails with auth error....

what is this root cause, please mrbeep?

Do it as soon as the problems start.

It would assist us in getting to the root cause

As said earlier, the network is alot busier than normal, and will remain this way probably for the rest of the week.

Many folks are also downloading during peak, which will affect their browsing speeds.

Once we receive their ticket, we can investigate and see what is causing the issue.
