Hmmm... speedtests seem to be of no value really.

IS says Line Speed: 704 kbits/s, but modem says 2Mbs... seems daft to me.

Ignore the specific numbers in this post, just want to show the architecture to help mika out.

I'm connected directly to the internet from my PC using an ADSL over PPPoE connection. Thus the first hop is not to my router but to the other side of my connection.

Otherwise it would be the same IP regardless of ISP you're connected to.

Something is grinding me up the wrong way.

I was told routing change had been done to my account, i asked for technical details / elaboration i got none.

After a few back and forth emails, i asked if the routing was reset on the account (which i wanted because when it was done it seemed to make my account not work this morning) subsiquent to that, i was told my account was reset, then proceeded the the same question, was the routing on the account reset... no answer to that either.

I have a little OCD when it comes to things like that, i dont like defective changes.

Im at work right now but i cannot connect to my PC via teamviewer.. probably because i need to restart my modem ;<
But i can see my account is working if i set it up on my side at work..

Results like these are the only ones you should be looking for

example: (221.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

that is what you should expect from a 2mb line, afaik you line seems fine considering your speedtests

@MrBEEP I hear what you are saying but then why does IS show slow, slow, slow line speed and when I run the Telkom test I get full line speed? This was the case last week, IS was dead to me but Telkom was showing my full line speed.

well i spoke to a senior systems enigneer and when i explained the situation to him, he said, "oh your with openweb, thats what they always say."

disreguarding telkom, cybersmart and mtn business working 100%. its actually funny that all other isps work just fine, simply not openweb. that show clearly the problem is woth openweb.

when you cannot browse the internet in the day it shows theres something seriously wrong. and that wrong is with openweb.

unfortunately its true. i read it page after page after page that the fault is always somewhere else and never with openweb.

as per the CPA and NCR i would not be using this account after today. i have given my formal cancellation of twenty business days as required by law, and not by openweb. with bad service delivery openweb broke any contract that might have excisted from there side.

Near full line speed here in JHB on my capped account. Running much better than yesterday...

Nobody can take you seriously if you cant even use correct spelling and grammar.

Hi

I am having no issues today... so far.
Monday and Tuesday it crawled to an absolute halt after 11AM, and only became usable again after 5PM.

Interestingly enough, I cannot run OOKLA speedtest.net test to any Cape Town server, it just dwindles down and does nothing until I end it or refresh.
An OOKLA test to JHB or International runs however... and is OK, just any Cape Town test dies and never completes.

Unfortunately speedtest does not tell you the whole story.

By nature it uses a download to 'test' speed. As downloads and similar are shaped, the result you will receive will be the speed of your shaped downloads.

Speedtest tells a good story because everything is a download really. When you open a web page,
the images and content files are "downloaded" to your browser. This is being shaped by OW, and so
browsing websites are slow as they all have content that needs to "download" in order to be displayed.
If you have poor speedtest results, your browsing will NOT be great, am I wrong?

Just tell people how browsing is shaped during the day so they don't have to keep sending
PMs/support emails for a problem that's probably just OW shaping of http.

Capped... i want to hear how uncapped is doing :P

Im at work currently :<

That much I can no longer help with. I recently calculated my monthly usage and decided to just purchase the allocation as a capped account. I no longer have shaping issues. Not sure why more people don't opt for this course, as it works out the same price for me as gold uncapped was costing...

Use the mybroadband speed test. I've never had issues with it, and the results then form a part of proper analysis for the SA market...
